Gonna Buy A Celica

Howdy all.

I'm looking to buy a 2000 Celica, with around 30-40k on the clock. Any info or advise would be greatly apprechiated. Wanting to buy from a garage (Based in North East) so I get warranty.

How are differnet models/face lifts and how can these be identified?

Also is there much difference in the Imports? Are they worth getting? Staying away from? ETC....

Thanks

J

PS Anyone wanna buy a Carina E GLI, Mreg, 63000 miles??

Go for it

There were 2 models in that era - the base 140 model and the 190 model.

The 140(bhp) is regraded by some as very slow but drive it forself before making any decision. The 190 was the more powerful model but also regarded by some as still not having enough.

It's all about what you feel suits you. I have a 190 and it goes GREAT. If you want more poewer than that can give then look at other cars so don't be dissuaded by any negative comments you may see. Test drive them and make yur own mind up.

Cool, Cheers dude!!!

I am very much looking foward to becoming a Celica owner!! Not too worried about power. Just hope to get a good car with decent mileage.

I love the new Celica. It drives well and is really comfortable.

Have a drive and you'll see what I mean

A warrenty is a good thing just in case

If it's a Toyota dealer then they can pretty much source a car for you to your requirements from all across the UK.

Been in to the 2 local dealer ships (D'ton), they weren't very helpful.

One had a Y reg with 44k but wanted 12,600  for it. Though that was very much overly priced.

If its a 140 model with that many miles then yes slightly to high.

Not sure if it's a 140 or 190. Knew it was over priced though. Prob gonna go back there next weekend end and see if its still there. Then I can check if its a 140 or 190.

There is an X reg Silver one with 30k going for £9995, but it's an Import. Do ya know the difference?

The wait will be worth it  Good luck and post pictures when you do get it.

Have a look in my garage for my 190.

Was that RMB mate? I use 'em (Yarm branch) since my town lost their Lookers franchise (hooray!!!) and I find 'em very helpful.

You could also consider DrunkenDuck's very special gen 7 celica. It's a import but, whoa, it's very nice. 'Duck lives in Darlo and has his car for sale elsewhere on this forum. I've owned a 140 and now have a 190 and I can say there is nothing like hitting lift on the 190. The 140 just seems slow afterwards. As others have posted try 'em first though and good luck.

Think so. It was the one out near teesside. Not the D'ton one (Rymans I think) they were not helpful either.

Was just the fact it was a Y reg and they were asking 12,600. guy didn't seem remotely interested in reducng the price. He offered me 1,700 for my Carina E buy against a 12,600 car it wasn't much. I think I can get atleast 1,800 for my Carina (only 63000 mile, top condition).

The 190 will be my choice though!!

As a guide, my 190 is a Y plate registered in July 2001. It had a little over 28,000 miles on it when I bought it and is immaculate with sunroof, spoiler, cd, blah blah blah..........and Hills (my Local Toyota dealer) gave me it for £11,700. Top place

matey, have you tried speaking to Shutty? He works for a dealer in West Yorkshire and he's da man when it comes to servicing and deals. You can contact him through celica-club.co.uk but I'm sure he's posted a few times on TOC before. He should have access to many G7's. Great guy to know. I'll be going to him when my baby is due a service next month. I only use my local centres for warranty.

cheers
