Make sure the engine isn't burning excess oil, the power-steering pump works OK, the steering feels ok as racks are very prone to going, check the gearbox is OK if it's a manual as there a weak-point, ensure no bits of trim are missing as they come apart quite easily, other than that just little electrical gremlins which might crop up.

If i was you, id get the 2.0litre version, as they are better than the 1.8 i.e no excessive oil leeking/burning...may be a bit more pounds to buy the 2.0 litre, but its worth.

Tis a very gd car, although do get steering checked thats the only probs ma dad has had with one of these, hes got 50k odd miles on it. only probs hes had is steering so far
