Before i bought my supra i had driven about five 6-speed manuals (lets face it 6 speeds are cool) but i had to drive only one auto to have my mind changed.

Funnily enough the auto i drove i bought

There is less than .5 of a seconds diffrence in 0-60 between the manuals and the autos.

But in order to actually get a manual to go faster than an auto you have got to be a pro at quick and precise gear changing. In the auto you just floor it and hold it in a straight line

You can put the auto into manu mode and change gears anyway if you like, and genrally on the 1/4mile the autos are quicker as the gears are longer (i.e. less changes) and you never seem to wheelspin off the line - which is probably the worst part about the supra - getting the 326bhp down to the tarmac via only the rear wheels.

auto's are well good , but they dont like ice or a bit snow on banks , big no no . apart from that though driving one is a real pleasure , i loved mine .

Don't be put of by all the people that hate autos because "they are rubbish/no fun/slow/etc.

A good automatic is a pleasure to drive, the problem with automatics is most of them are NOT good.

The supra box however is a cracker

I just got a very late spec mk3 supra auto, the very late spec is good as it has a different gearbox to the earlier ones, its the same I believe as the soarer TT box, and very close to the mk4 supra box. it is fluid and smooth, fantastic..

My g/f had always been anti auto (even more so after driving my mums merc SL) she drove my car and comment on how it seemed to really suit the car, "now I know what you mean about autos and DECENT autos"

Test drive a few, its the only way to be sure!

They really come into their own if you commute too..

Having owned about 5 UK Auto's and 1 manual 6-Speed - Personally and honestly i feel the Auto to be better to drive IMO. Driving the Manual for the first time I was always gettting into 5th instead of 3rd and 6th instead of 4th... Seriously Annoying -

I also hated driving around town and changing from 1st to 2nd as if your under 2500 rpm it was pretty stiff and you can hear/feel the gear selecting and the diffs engaging...

You dont get none of that with the Auto's....

Personally I love driving manual cars but the Supra TT manual box/drive (same with the manual 3000GT TT) I cannot stand driving..!! BOTH are v. heavy cars...

All IMHO of course

is it your first toyota???

If you are used to other marques, then miles can be an issue...

my 150,000 miles Mr2, still on its original engine, interior, and even paint, was in better condition, and more reliable then my mums mercedes that has done 40k miles and is the same age!

100k on a MKIV is just about run in !

A lot of the yanks go single at about 130 - 150k with no real issues.

do you reckon a supra with full service would be run in at 100k? (im thinking of buying one around the 60-70 mark)

I certainly wouldn't be worried about it if i was looking to buy again. As long as the rest of the car was well kept and there was a good amount of service information.

We tend to attach to much stigma to the 100k mark here in the UK
