Tsw Wheels

Question about TSW wheel quality and durability:

At present both my corollas run TSW wheels, on my AE92 GTi I have TSW 'Stealth' 5 spoke which I fitted in Jan 1996 and on my AE111 GS I have TSW 'Apex' 5 spoke which I fitted in March 2003.

The 'Stealths' which I fitted 9 years ago are still in great condition with no blistering, chipping or tarnishing of any sort :D yet the 'Apex' I have had on the other car for nearly 2 years have suffered bad from chips on the spokes :crybaby: ; its as if they have very little paint/laquer on them. None of the wheels have ever been 'kerbed' and I never use any form of 'acidic cleaner on them. I am wondering if any other members have had experiance of TSW's quality start to go down in recent years. The reason I went for TSW again was because of being so impressed with the quality of the first TSW wheels I had.

My local 'Wheel Shop' who are looking into the problem (and who are very helpful) also deal in 'Fox' wheels and said they didn't wish to sell me any of these at present as they are dealing with a lot of complaints of paint/laquer discolouring and flaking off! :o So are all wheel manufacturers suffering?

Ideas anyone?

Also I know wheel design is a personnal taste but could anyoneone recommend another 5 spoke design from another wheel manufacturer that is known for good finish and quality.

I agree with you that a lot of the older TSW wheels have stood up well but recent ones are a bit poorer. I have a set of TSW Turn - 5's on mine and they have a few wee chips on the spokes. They are matt grey wheels so the chips are black, doesnt seem bad when the wheels are dirty but really annoys me when they are clean and you can see the marks.

And mine were certainly cheap anyway!! lol

to be honest - you get what you pay for... and I've always seen TSW as cheap wheels.

I didn't realise that was there image, honest  .

As said the old ones seem to be really good quaility.

Also some places have said the quality of 'TSW' is better than say 'Fox' or 'Adikt' (but perhaps these are all classed as 'cheap' wheels nowadays)

I know 'the truth can hurt' but thanks Fidgits I will be more careful on my choice next time, thanks

I was hit with a big stick if I said I was going to get a set of Fox alloys.

But I like the TSW's I have now, still never seen them on another car and they were very cheap so I cant complain!

Had Apex's on my old Rolla...

TSW are made from chocolate, you seriously get what you pay for. I'm never going to buy another set of TSW wheels as long as I live.

They chip & scratch VERY easily and are really not worth the money. Spend a little more and get some fox's or wolfrace (or check out halfrauds for a sale on OZ's)

As said on the original post the first set of TSW's (which are on my GTi) have been on car for 9years and are ace  it's just the newer ones which I'm annoyed about.

Wolfrace wheels were on my GS originally and I replaced them because they had blistered terrible.

Fox are even cheaper than TSW round my neck of the woods and have a terrible reputation for discolouring and flaking.

OZ ...Now theres a thought, thanks  .

However 'allfrauds in our area (Telford, Shropshire.) have a terrible reputation, they bring new meaning to the words inefficient and incompetent!. When people have ordered off them (usually from the 'Ripspeed' Dept.) you end up waiting months (and yes, I do mean months!), plus you have to keep going up there to check with them because the staff can never be bothered to contact you when the item comes in :ffs: ! ....then guess what... the item is the wrong one or size and then the whole 'ritual' starts all over again :ffs: !

Also no one round here ever, ever lets them fit anything at there workshop/fittment dept. 2 Years ago they fitted a sound system in a customers car ...i think you can guess what happened when they let one of their 'Urchins' loose with wiring ! No I'm not making this up!

I too don't think I will ever buy TSW again, although thanks to my helpful 'wheel shop' it looks like I may be getting free replacement APEX's due to whats happened :) .

I wasnt saying TSW were the worst wheels out there...

I mean, FOX is uber budget, and im surprised they last long enough to be fitted onto a car..

There are plenty around, just make sure you shop around. And stay away from TSW ;)

Try POTN or some other mail order wheel places, best place to compare prices :)

ive had lots of different makes of wheel from tsw (stealths, blades and venoms  ) azev (A) BBS, compos and speedlines and now O.Z and of all the tsw wheels the blades which i had on an escort  about ten years ago where the best for corrosion and quality of finish. the venoms i had 4 years ago where much worse had some pretty bad corrosion (but no chips or dings) so the finish must of been of a lower quality. the speedline and compos i had on my previous car for 5yrs were great i used them all year round and never had any problems with quality. i currently have O.Zs which have been on the car for 6 months and 10k and still look brill and i have no doubt they will carry on looking great for a very very long time. so to sum up i agree with Fidgets you ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR (if you pay, mine are on the never never 0% finance) and if you cant afford em get second hand quality alloy wheels.

Tell your friends to go back and point it out to the Centre that sold them the wheels. Keep it polite and ask them (the centre/wheel shop ) if they could report it back to the importer of the wheels (TSW/Yokohama).

At the same time also get your friends to e-mail Yokohama UK (Its on the TSW UK website: www.tsw-wheels.co.uk ) explaining what has happened.

I not saying they will get free replacement but they may get a percentage paid.

The more people that complain about the 'Apex' design wheels the better and TSW-Wheels may do something about it.

i payed near on £1000 for a set of TSW AVO R 18s over 3years ago for a saphire cosworth and never had a problem with them. i rate them above the likes of fox and wolfrace. not oz though which i had on my celica. yes i know oz use to make celica wheels but mine were'nt those ones.

just my two pence worth, shooting down not required. thank you

Thank you sir.

This is what i've now gathered: TSW used to be very good (e.g. 'Stealth' wheels are still perfect after 9 years on my Corolla GTi) but now there quality has gone down (hence bad chipping after 2 years with the 'Apex' versions on other Corolla).

OZ Wheels: you are the second person on this thread to recommend them, thanks I might give 'em a try

...but as said earlier it looks like (thanks to very efficient, helpful and kind local wheel shop) that replacement set of wheels may be provided due to problems i've encounted (espacially as they know I don't 'knock my wheels about' and i'm sure most other car enthusiasts don't either :) ).
