Hi there corolla people!

I used to own a lovely EP91 toyota starlet sportif, which i recently managed to write off :crybaby: . I may buy another Starlet but im also looking at corollas. Ive come across a 1998 3dr 1.6 GS which i am interested in. Would any1 please be able to tell me what the general performance and fuel consumption is like on this car?

My starlet was economical and also very nippy, i would just like to know if its worth the jump from a 1.3 twincam to a 1.6.

Thanx for ur help :D

You could try this site http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carrevie...l_id=892&page=7 - it has the car you are looking at listed, but I wouldn't be too sure of the accuracy of the features listing bit since the dates are a bit wacky! Anyway, should give you an idea.

There is also www.whatcar.co.uk which has lots of info on gazillions of cars.

Hope you find some useful info on one of those two!

Cheers

Alex

I have a 1998 Corolla SR which has the same 1.6 afe engine as in the GS. The performance is quite good, it's pretty nippy. Fuel economy is not particularly good in my opinion, especially if you drive on motorways/dual carriageways. Basically 5th gear is too short in my opinion. Anyway, last time I checked my mpg it was 33 mpg in mixed driving.

I find that my '98 GS is best 'around town' fuel economy wise and my '89 GTi more economical on long distance runs.

Also I have a question :D how much quicker is the SR and G6R (in the AE111 Model range due to them being the 'Sporty' versions) than the GS 1.6 (What 1.6 engine do they use? 1.6 GS uses 4AFE engine, what engine does SR & G6R 1.6 use?).

same engine. 1.6 AFE. I believe the performance is the same for the SR and GS. The G6R had a six speed box and accelerates slightly faster with a slightly higher top speed I think.
