Horrible Oil Smell Carina E

Another one from me (sorry, me and cars don't seem to be mixing at the moment).

Last weekend I was checking oil and topping up when I accidentally glooped Castrol over the top of the engine (much cursing). Anyway the oil level is now slightly over "max" but although I wiped the engine off there's still a layer glistening on the top of the engine.

Result is entry to the car is greeted with a vile oily smell which has persisted for a week 600 miles (1000km) (doesn't seem to be 'burning off' as I'd hoped). Anyone got a good method of cleaning the engine as I'm sure this is where the smell comes from? (no oil leaks or anything in the breather pipes)

Smell of oil solved!

In the boot the plastic bottle of engine oil had tipped over and the new lid Castrol use popped open. Result : large puddle of oil seeping into the boot carpet!

Stinks to high heaven.

Anyone got a good way of cleaning oil from car carpets??!!??!

:D :D :D :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Thought about that but the carpet goes all the way up and forms part of the rear seats (nice one Toyota).

Actually managed to soak most of it up with old sacks, paper towels and a bottle of washing up liquid.

Now I know how bad it must be for seabirds caught up in a slick - poor things.
