Yaris T Sport

After reading the Yaris TS vs .... threads, i did find myself wondering, what cars are available for similar money.....

The Yaris T Sport (3DR) retails at £12,245, so a quick look at cars with a RRP of £12000 to £12500 reveals that you could have...

Honda Civic 1.6i SE

Mini Cooper 1.6 16v

Fiat Punto 1.8 16v HGT

Seat Leon 1.6 16v SX

Fiat Stilo 1.8 16v Dynamic

Citroen C3 1.6i 16v Excl

Vauxhall Corsa 1.8 16v SRI

Brabus Smart Coupe

Of course, there is a lot more cars available, including a brace of diesels, but i just thought these 8 were probably the most interesting..

yeah i agree there Chappers, the Yaris does stand out, although, there are a few surprises for less...

Such as the Fiat Barchetta (okay, LHD only, but its a 2 seater sports car)..

And if the Civic is similar to the one my missues had (SE Sport) then it is the old VTi engine and a very nice chassis, and is a very nice drive..

But as you say, the Yaris does hold its own in that group..

I'd go for the T-Sport..

Saying that, £12k is alot for just a 1.5l..

Second hand, there's a massive choice with £12k

Yeah - the only problem with talking about used pricing is it varys with age/condition etc...

I mean for £12k you could pick up a nice IS200 ;)

But with citroen you wont be getting the quality and reliability of a Jap car though. So i'd stick with the Yaris to be honest.

Just to add into the mix, the Seat Ibiza 2.0 Sport comes in at sub £12K (how about VAG quality and reliability?)

But to be honest, if you go pricier, there isnt that much to compete..

Exactly, I mean, £12k would make me cry to recieve a TS for my hard earned.. You could get a mk3 Mr2 (with free nail polish) for the same amount, Lexus territory (If I were older, no offence, and a few Mazda's I could think of) These days I wouldn't think of not going Jap, don't know why :)

Yeah, i didnt even think of the MR2 - you could get a Mk2 turbo, *****, for that much, you could get a Supra..

I have to be honest, i am tempted to go German, they do have one up on the !Removed! when it comes to build quality IMO..

Yeah, but the mk3 Mr2 is just out of the TS category (running costs etc), whereas the Mk2 Turbo and Supra are different categories alltogether.. But yeah, both affordable instead of the TS.

Respect for German Engineering, top quality, just a bit bland for my liking..

Interesting post Fidgits,

Honda Civic: A possibility depends on the SE spec.

Mini Cooper: Nice car but I prefer the YTS. Minis are becoming too common.

Fiat Punto: It’s a FIAT!! Enough said.

Seat Leon: Another possibility would have to have a closer look at spec etc.

Citroen C3: Citroen = French = It will fall apart before you get it home.

Vauxhall Corsa: Behave!

Brabus Smart Coupe: Too small, too ugly, too over rated.

All in all, I would look at the Honda as a possible 2nd choice with maybe the Seat in 3rd. The other cars I really wouldn’t contemplate.

Side-by-side compare Honda Civic 1.6 SE & Toyota Yaris 1.5 VVT-i T Sport & SEAT Leon 1.6 SX

Back in Jan last year, when I was looking for a car, I was also looking at MINIs - went to a MINI garage to spec one..... and the one I wanted would have cost 15k!

So scrapped that idea and got my Yaris instead! :D I would like a MINI, but they are becomming common now - back in the day they were almost elite, but no so much now...

As for the rest...

Honda Civic: Prefer the Jazz

Mini Cooper: See above

Fiat Punto: Drove one as a hire car - its awful!

Seat Leon: Very nice, was in my wish list but the Yaris beat it!

Citroen C3: NMS - plus not really into Citroen....

Vauxhall Corsa: AWFUL! Drove one of those too and I really did not like it!

Brabus Smart Coupe: Not big enough (which is something considering I'm a small car gal! lol)

Yaris everytime for me!

And not ONE person has said the Renault Clio 182/cup. Seen Arnold Clark is doing these for a fraction under 12k!

the whole point was cars in the same price range (RRP) as the Yaris....

Considering the Clio 182 RRP is £14,700, at £2,500 more than the Yaris, not exactly a fair comparison..

still, RRP is over 2k above the Yaris, and lets not even compare Insurance/running costs...

And looking here, unless a 04 car can still be considered new - you are wrong..

(04 means 6 months old to me)

No-one said about RRP, so i thought i'd bring it up! Anyways, it's also under 12k here too....
