on ticking over it reads below 0 cant exactly say what take your car out when its all warmed up properly floor it and see if your standard gauge goes above the plus sign

Dont worry thats normal mine does too , to be honest i really wouldnt worry too much

probably best to wait for the experts to come online , but myself i dont see a problem it just seems a little lower than expected.

What year is your car? perhaps that makes a difference i dont know :!Removed!:

What revison of mr2 do you have

differnt revisons have differnt standard boost levels

your gauge will alwys read negative when at idle (vacume)

1.0 bar of boost is 14.8 psi i think <_<

we are talking about an after market boost gauge here arent we !!! not that piece of junk in the dash!!!

when i got my mr2 it had no aftermarket boost gauge

and the one on the dash used to go half way (the 1st thicker line)

when i got a boost gauge it read 0.3-0.4 bar (about 6psi ish) (standard)

mr2 's have high and low boost - controlled by a valve (vsv valve)

my vsv was disconected, so i was stcuk in low boost.

once reconected - i got to high boost (about 8-9 psi on mine)

rev 1 turbo

1992 was the change over year for rev 1 to rev 2.

not sure if the boot level changed between these two, or if it ws only onto the rev 3, ill have to have a look.

check the vsv (i gues mine was diconected because some half wit was trying to mod the car ?!?!)

hmmmmm.. cheers where is this valve located?

Right, not sure how much you know (i am only new to this game as well really)

find your turbo (will be at the back of the engine as you look from behind - and accessable from the left hand/passengerside)

next to your turbo you will see your actuator (standard actuator normally a gold kinda colour) it will be a round disk about 2" accross, about 1" deep.

two pipe will be going to this actuator.

one from your turbo to to the 1st pipe, and then the second pipe leads to your vsv valve - its a b**ch to get to. just make usre that the pipe is connected from the actuator to the vsv(not cut and blocked with a screw like mine was

If the VSV pipe has been cut, it's probably because the previous owner had a boost controller of some sort on it.

it should also read less than -0.3 vacuum under idle (when warmed up) normal idle vacuum pressure is around -0.6 to -0.7bar i think. Have you checked that there is no leak/kinks in the boost guage piping?

i tried today to see if the pipe giong from the actuator to the vsv was cut, but its reaaly hard to see i had to feel down with my finger, as there was no room. i think its conected as i cant feel it flapping about. looks like im going to have to take it to a garage. dont suppose anyone knows a good garage to take it to in tyne + wear?
