Mk1 Insurance

Hey guys, I need to dig into the pool of knowledge for sec...

My little bro is just starting driving lessons and is looking into his first car, he still hasn't bit the bullet and signed up yet though!!

He is looking into getting an N/A Mk1 MR2 and I, being the kind brother I am, want to do as much as I can to get another budding enthusiast in the family! :D

Any ideas? references from first time insurers? :help:

Cheers

Dave!

Highway insurance through HIC brokers were good to me.... when I say good I mean £900ish tpft for a 19 (think that's how old I was when I got my mk1??) year old with no no-claims but license from 17 on my parents insurance. That was garaged in an OK post code... that counted as chuffing excellent when I was looking at quotes... and cost less than my mates crappy ford escort!

I'm with them again now with my Mk2 and paying something like £300 and something tpft now with no-claims.

Try this link. That site is the first one to come up on a google search for them and the number there is the one I used for my current insurance quote. I think it's someone's direct dial or something, but it works.

Also do as the page says and mention matey-matey (whatever the hell that is) as they give you the max discount.

mk1s are high for insurance, might even be cheaper for a mk 2

Can't be more expensive for a mk2!

I think he was looking at a 1.6 mk1? are they all supercharged? (he just wants the cheapest one to insure..)

Thanks for that link man, ill pass him onto it!

supercharged ones are gettin more rare now, just cos its a smaller engine dont mean its cheaper, safety issues, car security and loads of stuff alter insurance, be surprised if he gets a quote under a grand for it
