Weird Sound Investigation Continues....

Ok...so since i've had my supra i've noticed two weird noises which i think could be the same thing...

Coming to a stop you have a strange sound which resembles someone gently hitting a hammer onto something iron, this happens as your usually coming up to a set of lights and you hear it about a foot before you actually stop.

Although it doesnt do it all the time, more when its cold than anything.

Also noticed that full lock coming down off my drive or on gravel i get this juddering - on tarmac it feels like the the tyres are being pulled off the rims and also makes a rubbery pinging sound

Doesnt seem to happen on a level surface though......

As far as i can tell the wheels arent rubbing against anything.

In pursuit of trying to fix these problems i've had new shocks fitted, geo checked, subframe checked, new anti-rollbar connection arm and now im about to have new discs and pads fitted along with new brake hoses.

I guess if these things dont work its a case of getting a garage to take and look and hope that there is nothing wrong with the steering rake

Anything else that anyone can suggest i try? :(

  • 1 month later...

This noise you can here is one of two things! Some brake pads dont fit as they should and can grab the disc and slide up or down slightly creating a bang. Normally happens when just changing from reverse to forward and using brakes for first time. But it is more likley your engine mounting.!!! This sounds more like a poping sound and i bet my bottom dollar this is what it is. In fact i have had this problem on a couple of supras i have owned! Think it should of been a recall fault.

Sorry forgot to say. To test engine mount, get someone to drive car back and forward while you hold a broom stick on mounting and when it pops, bangs (what ever) you will feel it through broom stick. Hope this helps!

I get exactly the same when reversing on full-lock. It's almost as if the wheels are trying to rip off the tyre. Although, my driveway is a flat surface.

On my last tyre check, I inflated to 35psi, so am going to up this a little next time, to see if that makes a difference.
