Boost Controller Problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

ive got a turbo xs dual solenoid boost controller, and since having my gt28rs turbo fitted the controller isnt working.

Ive been told its because the garage that fitted my turbo have t`d into the hose coming from the left hand size of the plenum, (i think it goes to the blow off valve) and its supposed to go from the actuator, to the controller, then to a blocked up pipe down the back of the plenum?

Is this true?

pic of engine with paint bits pointing out what i mean:

1 = where the boost controller is "T" pieced into.

2 = where im supposed to attach the other end of the pipe from the boost controller.

Looks like they've plumbed it into a normal vacuum pipe! The correct one is the one coming from the actuator to the turbo.

The boost controller defo needs to go inbetween the feed from the turbo to the actuator.

there must be a feed from SOMWHERE to the actuator, or it would never open the wastegate !!!! and your boost would be sky high !!

the boost controller is basically restricting flow to the actuator to prevent it opening as early as normal (restricts pressure so it will open at a higher psi)

so it NEEDS to be in that loop or there is no way it will work !!!!

Ditch the hose that goes from the turbo to the actuator, and plug the hole in the turbo.

Run a vacuum hose from your intake manifold to your actuator. If you can't do that, then "T" into one of the hoses VERY near the intake manifold.

This way, you're not regulating boost on what your turbo is kicking out, but what your intake manifold is actually seeing.

Dig out the instructions for the boost controller, and redo the whole lot, NEARER TO the intake manifold, not the turbo, "T" it into the hose that I mentioned above.
