Restoring An Ae86....

Hi guys - well i've got my hands on another AE86 :D in Silver/Grey colour 'C' reg but its a wee bit poorly

It needs the wheel arches seeing to and i was wondering how to go about getting them done..

i.e. Shall i look for new front wings..., repair the old ones... if so how.. will plates need to be welded to make the arches...?

Also is it possible to get hold of the plastic mouldings that go over the arches...?

Any1 got any MINT front wings..? Know of a good bodyshop who can do the repairs..?

I couldnt belive how much your damaged gold one got on eBay! You almost got what you paid for it and that was when it was a minter!

I take it your meaning the front arches instead of the back, if so just replace the complete wing! Neater job and if you treat them right they wont rust again for along time!

And yes the front arch trims are still availible last time i checked at work, but i dont think the rears were! Would you like me to check and get some prices for you! (trade price of course!)

When i bought some last time, i bought 2 complete sets just in case! But that was some serious money! :(

would appreciate it if you could get me some prices on them but need front & rear plastic arches as previous owner chucked them away when they came apart from the wings..!!

Was a nightmare getting this '86 - 580mile round trip - stuck in traffic for ages and the whole journey took 12 hours.... but defo worth it :)

Your best bet is to get mark 2 escort arches which came still be got for bout £40.them fit and are steel plus they are they exact same for fitting bck on the original mouldings

OK - is that the front arches or rear or both...? Can they be bought new from Ford for £40..? is that each or a pair..? Its just that their isnt many good body people around here and if i decide to restore it i want to do it properly and dont mind spending on it as long as the jobs 100%

Rash: Well i sort out some prices and availability for you monday morning when im at work! Last time i bought front wings for my AE86 there was still lots availible!

We pou them on the back.There just the arch its self not a Quarter panel.So all u do then is cut away as much or as little of the arch u want they just tack weld these arches on.a bit a filler wont be long making here look as good as new.My friend just got them ordered throygh an autofactors.So i suppose any have decent auto factors will sort you out.Perfect job and good soiled.not like some out there.For the front id say complte wings are the only way to go.Ya it was about 50-60 euro(£40) when he got the pair last year.

Please dont put Ford Escort arches on an AE86. They dont look even close to the Toyota Originals, i can spot em from a million miles away.. They dont look right :(

Right then Rash, good news is the front wings and all 4 wheel arch trims are availible!

The front wings are on back order until late feb time tho! Where as the trims are in stock at Toyota GB! I know the prices are strange but thats Toyota for you!

Front Wing O/S/F: 53801-1E310 = £91.81 @ trade price and inc VAT!

Front Wing N/S/F: 53802-1E260 = £91.81 " " " " " " " " "

O/S/R Arch Trim: 75873-19125 = £41.03 " " " " " " " " "

N/S/R Arch Trim: 75874-19125 = £22.67 " " " " " " " " "

O/S/F Arch Trim: 75871-19185 = £44.06 " " " " " " " " "

N/S/F Arch Trim: 75872-19185 = £24.14 " " " " " " " " "

Total = £315.52

Thanks for that buddy - to be honest not that bad a price..

I'm gonna take it for the MOT this week and hopefully if i dont get stung on that i'll probably have them - its just finding some1 to do the rear arches properly as it'd be a shame to spend all that cash if the back arches are not mint..

p.s. do the wings from a 84 fit/same as an 86 model....? Do they have holes for the arches or are they stuck on...?

Yeah you would have to get the rear arches done right, you wouldnt want them to start rusting through again if their not done properly!

The wings on all AE86's are the same apart from the early ones dont have arch trims! And because of that they wont have the pre-drilled holes that you get on the later wings!

But i imagine you could drill the earlier wings to allow the trims to fit, thats what i ahd to do with my AE82 wings!!
