Sensor Tips - How To Re-set It Yourself

Hi all,

Found out some useful info yesterday which I just have to share. Basically it started Friday night, I went to Tesco came back to find bits out of my engine bay on the floor. My B/F has got the spraying bug and has taken caps off to spray silver.

All looked good till Saturday morning. I was driving to the Bentley meet with my friend Dave. I noticed that my Engine Check light had not gone out. At this point I am getting annoyed. WTF did my B/F do to my engine the previous night.

After looking it through could not see anything wrong, all sensor cables were ok, nothing out of place.

In the afternoon a mechanic Paul was seeing (he had fixed his computer) gave me the following advice.

** It appears that a sensor may have been knocked but did not cause any seeable problems. All that was needed was a re-set of the Sensor. Going to the dealer would cost money, but I was given a cheat **

Remember this for future reference - it may help you.

** To re-set your Dash sensor lights carry out the following procedure :- Turn on your ignition (not the engine) for 15 seconds, turn off for 15 seconds - repeat 5 times. **

This is the default code to "kick it to touch". It worked. The Check Engine light now goes off when it is supposed to.

You cant imagine the things that were going through my head when the problem first arose.

Anyway just thought that this was important info to pass on.

;)

My engine light has been on ever since i replaced the cat. If i reset the ECU it takes 2 days to come back on but i can't get rid of it.

The car is running better than ever now though so i'm not complaing.

I think it's just the extra presure going though the LAMBA sensor.

Will this work for the SRS warning light after you have disconnected the seat airbag if you have to take the seat out?

Cheers,

Steve.

Dont get me wrong - I am not recommending this if you have on going problems. I agree if a light comes on it probably means something, but I was just noting that in my case all that happend was a sensor was knocked causing the light to kick up a fuss.

This is only a handy tip if you have done some mods within your engine bay and accidently hit a sensor but not actually caused any damage.

I only recommend this in cases such as mine, if i had taken it to Toyota they could have charged anything upto 140 just to re-set the blinking thing.

As for the SRS light - not sure, I was only told this was a Dash reset code - you could try and see what it does.
