Hi all,

I have the option to get a new steering wheel for my Paseo and have always wanted to change it but am unsure due to the whole airbag situation.

What would you do if you were me?? Would you change and if so which wheel??

Top or bottom?

Here are the options of the wheels i might go for:-

Better still get the TRD one that has the airbag built in

TRD ones very difficult to get hold off. Carriers don't want to know because they contain explosive material plus they are very expensive.

what about a new shape celica one, they look quite good, mite be quite pricey to get hold of one tho.......guess most celi's in scrap yards will have their airbags exploded

I was thinkin about those ones as i like the one in my mums rav4 and dads mr2 roaster.

Anyone ever done a steering wheel chage either with or without a new airbag??

What sort of price are those TRD ones??

Cheers

 Rip it out  I've got a tenzo r wheel and it feels amazing, makes you want to take every corner fast and looks good. I just ripped mine out,the light didnt even come on but i am planning on buckets with harness's so dont need an air bag

All you do is DISCONNECT the Battery and wait a couple of minutes, then remove the screws in the side to pull out the airbag assembly then unclip it(yellow cable) then take of the centre nut on the steering wheel ,this is usually %$(ing tight so use strength. The biggest problem is removing the wheel, put the nut back on a couple of threads(or you'll break your nose) and start pulling.I found a good method but is hard to explain, hit it like a monkey you know like a monkey hits the ground ???? If you do not use the air bag again you will have to pull the fuse out so the light dont come on.

Cheers all,

I dont think at the price of the TRD one ill be getting one of those. I think i'll have a look into getting a new style Toyota steering wheel with an airbag if the price is reasonable.(knowing Toyota parts it'll be a lot!!!) if not ill just wack in a nice isotta wheel. I'm thinking maybe the top one but we'll see.

Nice one Tim with your wheel. I cant wait to see it when i get back to ipswich!!! I think my car will be completed either thursday or friday so will let you know. In the time being you got any pics of your new wheel in the car??

Cheers,

Matt

hi matt,

my 2pence worth

good good - steeringwheels nice choice - I reckon 1st one the smaller picture looks more modern, otherone looks too old style for a paseo

if you were a 90 year old biddy get a airbag, but i reckon sod that and get the nicer styles without the airbag,

sam
