Avensis 2004 Rear Brake Light Design

At my local Dealership recently, I noticed a Difference in the Design of the Rear brake lights between the Avensis at launch and the 2004 onwards Avensis. The 04 Avensis has 2 Circled rear lights 1 large in the middle and 1 incomplete small circle on the bottom right. The Avensis from launch has 1 extra incomplete small circle on the top left side.

Any Idea why they changed the design was it a functional improvement or for a improved design purpose

You may be confusing the hatchback Avensis with the saloon model. They both have a similar rear light cluster but the individual lights are different. The saloon has a type of LED design with numerous small lights whereas the hatch has a single light unit. Not too many hatch back models on the roads over here, most are saloon models.
