HI GUYS/GALS,

YOUR ANSWERS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED! THANK YOU.

different terms for the same thing. Starlet turbo already has one as standard, but a quiet one...

If you want a noisy one then there are literally hundreds out there which will do what you want.

You have to have a turbo for these to work!

in simple terms the wastegate controls the boost by altering the amount of exhaust gas passing through the turbine.

a dumpvalve or blowoff valve (same thing) just releases the boost when you shut the throttle butterfly so pressure doesnt build up in the inlet and stall the turbo.

the fluttery sound as far as i can tell is the sound of the wastegate. i THINK it does it on rally cars because they have some sort of anti-lag system on their cars. normal road going turbo cars can be made to make that sound quite easily but it damages the turbo and effects performance.

you dont want the flutter noise that means your blow off valve isnt opening as easy as it shud be and is sending air back down towards the turbo causing the blades to spin the other way which is bad because its sending air the wrong way to your engine which can damage your turbo and your engine

the flutter (often referred to as wastegate chatter) is actually compressed air coming back out the turbo inlet past the compressor blades.

if you imagine when you close the throttle to change gear etc there is pressure in the pipework between the throttle butterfly and the turbo and that air has to go some where.

although it sounds cool it can be bad for some turbos esp those with ceramic shafts.
