:( Four wheel steering alarm light comes on after travelling a few meters. Alarm first came on after cv joint replaced. Steering works ok - but something not right.

Would really like a wiring diagram for this model as I only have a haynes book which does not cover 4ws

neil,

ive got the same problem, on my 92 gtr with the 4ws light coming on after about half a mile, ive been trying to find out about it for ages, and all ive found out is that the sensor for the 4ws warning light is somewhere around the front passenger side wheel, when i first bought the car, the bloke said he had just had that sides wheel bearing done, it took me a while to even realise that the light was a warning light, but anyway, it doesn't seem to be affecting the steering at all, so i just put it down to the mechanic not replacing it properly or something.

what side was the cv joint replaced on yours?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply, the cv joint was replaced on the left side and rechecked by the mechanic. Soon after the alarm light problem appeared the steering wheel position (it drops down on inserting the ignition key ) failed to work. Am looking for a common link -possible fuse. Do not have proper electrical diagram so in the dark to a large extent

Neil

ps light is on all the time even if 4ws off

Have a look at this page on Celica Club and also the ICOC Yahoo Group. They have a whole section about 4WS. Take a look under files/4WS Technical

what happens when you put it in reverse, then engaged the Revs 2WS button?

does it now go off?, do you hear the steering straighten itself

Have you got the fault code from the ECU? Connect Tc and E1 in the check connector (passenger side of engine bay near shocker mount) and turn on ignition.
