Standard Speakers

Hi Guys

Just wondering, what size are the Speakers in the doors? and do replacement spkers need to be custom fits?

im guessing that in the dashboard they are tweeters

Cause thats the last thing i need upgrading! Managed to install my amp and sub into the original stereo, and it works great except for one minor problem.

When i switch the ignition on and the amp powers up, i get a low frequency sound on the sub, does anyone else get this??

Im really puzzled on this, any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Yeah cheers Crisis least i know now, but anyone still have any ideas on why i got a low frequency from my sub when the ignition is on?

Could it be an earthing point somewhere?

Does it get louder when you rev the engine if so probably a bad earth on the amp

no, it doesnt Doug, but it also (thro the sub) makes a thud noise when i change tracks too!!

U see i couldnt be bothered about putting an aftermarket HU in so i got an RCA converter and did it that way. Im not bothered that much, just wondering what it is

5.25" is slightly small and 6.5" is slightly big however both can be made to fit (6.5" a little more fiddley). I reckon a 6" will be a straight forward fit, most aftermarket audio companys dont tend to make this size and thats why it is such, so that toyota can make more money from you by you buying from them. Get 5.25" and make some mdf spacers for it to clear the windows, thats my advice. Hope this helps.

Have you checked your amplifiers settings? I recommend that you take the power straight from Battery. Do you have the regular player or have you changed it? The standard player sucks ***** pretty bad ;) Yea and check the earth cable too

you can fit 4"two way or tweeters in the dash. and5.5 to 6.5" in the doors. it depends on the type of music and sound stage you want to create.

From experience, you will need some sort of spacer to prevent the window from hitting the magnet.

A larger speaker may also rattle the doors under high speaker loads as the echodoor is not a solid design

:D hiya mate sounds like ur getting interferance. have u run the positive lead next to either the negative or rca leads??? if u run them down different sides it might stop. or u could get a interferance suppressor. good luck

Nip to your local Halfords or car audio place and pick up a set of these:

They are 6.5" Spacers from Autoleads. The Part number is: SAK-2914.

These will replace any Speakers you had previously, then you just screw your new Speakers to them, wire them up and screw/rivet the spacers with the Speakers back to the door!

Eh... voila....

I have written a full guide on how to replace the door speakers, so if you want one, just let me know.

Also, it's 10cm speakers in the dash, but you can fit tweeters with some MDF spacers, i didn't... instead i used 10cm JBL coaxials and they sound the bizz!!

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Yeah, I'd like to 'know how to' too... One thing the wifey is not too keen on is the sound from the standard set-up. We're planning to do the Speakers first, so like the idea of the jbl 10cm co-axials... What Speakers have you fitted in your doors?

Ta.

You can squeeze 16.5cm's in the door I think aswell! And the speakers on the dash are speakers and not tweeters but I now have tweeters where the dash speakers used to live!

Was that easy enough Ryan? Probably a good idea as thats what most cars do and tweeters need to be high up.

The tweeters are they what came with your new door Speakers? Any different wiring needed for tweeters or just stright foward swapping. Seems a good idea :)

I can't see it being wildly difficult but I never done it so I wouldn't know! Got the pro's in to do it, I'm not the best with I.C.E!

All I know that is I'm happy and it sounds pretty good! :D

Fair enough, going to do all my ICE myself, with some help from mates. But before I go and do anything going to goto my local ICE specialist and see if he approves the system and thinks I should change anything in the design, cause I dont know alot myself.

If I put components in the door though, where could I put the tweeters from them? Their pointless down by your feet!

If you're using components in the doors, the tweeters can either go in the dash with the crossover box in the door (make sure it's securly fastned or it'll rattle like a bugger though!)

Or, you can put the tweeters on the little black triangle on the window by drilling a ting hole for the cables and sticking the tweeters to the plastic. Then you can stick 10cm coaxials in the dash and it will sound the nuts!
