hi all,

could any one give me some advise on the tick over on the paseo 1.5st 1996 model.when the car is warm the tickover is a little rough and it causes the steering wheel to slightly vibrate.if you slighty increase the revs its better but you can almost detect a slight miss fire.the car has only 46,000 miles and has just been fully serviced with new plugs.also what should the tick over be when the car is cold?it runs at 1600rpm until its warm and it has always done that since ive had it which was in 1998 with 28,000 on the clock, but i cant help but think thats not right.any help would be great thanks.

Hi lee,

Mine does the same with the low rev and steering wheel vibrating thing occasionally. Although mine is in need of a service. Doubt its misfiring though.

I think that if its had a service they might not have checked the tick over and might need adjusting slightly. Was it a Toyota dealer that did the service??

Cant remember what it ticks over cold at as i am awaiting to get mine back, but someone might be more able to shed some light on the situation.

When warm the idle spped should be around 800rpm

When cold, its higher as its on its cold start system.

The vibrations through the steering wheel could be due to fact that the inlet manifold is connected to the power steering rack.

I would look at condition of the distributor cap, rotor arm and plug leads.

sounds like a misfire to me, check as above,

hi all,

thanks for the help.the car was serviced at a good toyota dealer and i did mention the tick over problem and when i collected the car he said there was a pipe hanging of.haveing said that i noticed no difference in the tickover problem when i got it back.ill check the stuff you suggested cause i think it is a miss fire.can any one tell me what the rpm is when their car is started from cold.after warm up it settles to about 850rpm i think.as mentioned mine is running at 1600 rpm.on another topic.im after alloys and was wondering if 15" would look good.i would like 16" but money seems to go higher than id like after 15".cheers.

Hiya mate

Mine has 15" wheels on if you wanna look in my garage :)

Fancied sticking 17"s on mine but the handling is much better with 15"s so stuck with them

I would agree with Andrew (toyotasera) too, if that doesn't sort it might be faulty sensor sending wrong readings to the ECU.

Ok now im confused.

Although mine is in need of a service (could be the reason) but mine sometime vibrates the steering wheel. Its not a usual thing but it sometimes does it and if i rev the engine a bit it cures it. If it happens its when come to a stand still during driving. Is this a similar prob or is it just a service it needs to sort out the revs?? Otherwise it runs perfectally.

Cheers,

oh about alloys, dont know anyone with 15's but you can pick up 15's and tyres for around £300 now!!!brand new.

I run 17's and although the acceleration might be affected its not something that i notice too much!
