Could anyone give me a quick guide through the different generations of Celica so that I can know which one I am talking about? Pictures of and differences between would be a great help too.

Sorry for being so thick but I said I was a Newbie.

Thanks

Thanks, it looks as if mine's a Gen 5 then, although not a GT4. I did buy it off a guy named Carlos though....

What's the difference between the liftback and the coupe? Or are they the same thing?

I was confused by the liftback/coupe naming.

From what I have gathered (although never confirmed)

In the USA they had both liftback and coupe, with the liftback the whole boot opened (including window), with the coupe only the base of the boot opened.

In the UK we only have the liftback (but it's known as a coupe??)

Feel free to correct me anyone?? :)

What a small old world, Bryan's RA61 gen 3 and Paul's MA61 from the TEC and TOC! :D

And Steve Cheung's mint example of a gen 4.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I've seen a few of the 'saloon'/US coupe in the states. They look a bit weird compared to the liftback that we're used to over here. The rear window is a bit shorter and the boot lid is a bit longer, more like the lines of the convertible IIRC.

Oh and they also pronounce the name as 'selicka' over there.
