Engine Swap

I believe the 3S-GE and the 3S-GTE engines can be fixed to the same mounts so you should have no problems whatso-ever, you'll need the new ECu and loom etc etc but should have no problems at all unless I'm mistaken...

The engine would be coming out of a gen5. im not to worried about attempting the swap myself but the only thing that worries me is the 4WD system, would it be possible to use my existing gearbox with an uprated clutch and use it in 2WD.

the gearbox should fit straight on. the blocks are basicly the same mounting wise

the st205 engine would bethe best choice over the mr2 unit as everything on it is for a celica but if you cant get one then an mr2 unit will still fit.

definately need an uprated clutch. talk to fensport they'll tell you if the boxes are the same but i'm sure they are. if you do need to change it then get one from an mr2 turbo this requires the gearlinkage modifying but its not too hard

all the best let us know how you get on

The original gearbox might have problems in handling the additional power, and you will have traction problems. Try getting an MR2 gearbox (preferabbly Rev3) with LSD should help a lot....

I am going that route but will get an MR2 engine....

Right, i took delivery of the car last night, it is definatly a gen5 celica with a 3SGTE engine. the engine and running gear are all ok, although the rest of the car is mullered. Getting all of the ancilleries of ther car to use is ok, how difficult is it to change the ECU and would the clutch from the G fit into my box.T

The clutch will not fit as far as I know. The GTE clutch will have 20 splines as compared to 21 on the GE. Try to buy a Caldina ST215 clutch disk should be same diameter as GT4 but with correct splines.

the ecu should just plug in. you will obviously need the one with the engine you are using. gearbox wise give fensport a ring they should be able to help.

try to use all the ancillaries from the 3sgte as they are correct for that engine.

take the loom out with the engine follow it inside the car and disconect it there. that way it should plug into yours with out too much hassle
