my mate has been looking at a celica 2.0 gt 1987.The only thing is that it has been in a garage for 12 months since it was taken out for it,s mot. What in particular should we look for when a vehicle has been standing for a while. He did move it out every now and again and today it fired up for the first time in 3 months. What anticipated problems could there be.The problem is i am to mechanics what andy fordham is to healthy living!! :D

ME and mechanics don't mix too well either but the first thing in this case where it has been in a garage for a year - I would check for birds/mice etc nesting in the engine bay.........

And I'm serious - It happens - REALLY

rear brakes binding on , check the sills for rust, door bottoms, and the exhaust system is probably rusted.if it fired up after 3 months whats there to worry about.

The brakes are fine and he had a new exhaust fitted at the last mot.The only rust is a small bubble on the rear o/s wheel arch and a 50p size of rust on the sunroof. It also has a new Battery.Just needs a !Removed! good wash/polish and clean inside!! One more thing, should he put a service into her before going onto the road.thanks..kevin :)

be prepared for a whole host of vacum leaks, as the rubber all over the engine bay may have perished too. i'd check the rad hoses for dry patches and cracks, never nice to have one split
