Good choice swapping to a Toyota

The 140 and 190 are the bhp of the different cars. The 140 has the VVT-I engine and the 190 has the VVTL-I

The 190 has the extra L in the engine type, which stands for Lift. Lift engages when you get quite high up the revs (over 4500rpm I think??) and gives you a boost of power - similar (but not as good) to a turbo.

You have to watch out for Lift Bolts as they tend to wear out and can cause engine damage. The latest ones have revised bolts - but I think you can get old bolts changed under warranty??

The boot lift struts are also a place to watch out for espicially if the car has a spoiler. They often aren't strong enough to hold the boot and should be replaced before you buy the car (if they are weak)

Hope this info helps - have a browse through the forum as they points a covered quite a bit!

Cheers

I wouldn't have thought insurance would be much more for the 140 compared to the astra sri.

The autotrader website is quite good for searching lots of companies.

From what I have seen (I have never driven a gen 7 celica) the performance is pretty much the sma ebetween the models until you get up the rev range, as soon as you are up the rev range it's a hell of alot quicker - but you do have to work it to get the speed out of it.

It may be cheaper to insure an older faster celica. A gen 6 celica like mine may be cheaper to insure and you could go for a GT4 which would easily outperform a 190 - mine is only a 1.8ST - approx 118bhp which is good but not a performance machine!

I went for the 1.8ST for insurance reasons and economy (I drive 5 miles to work and back each day at an avg speed of 10mph)

Gazza....

I'm liking your choice in car.... Soon Gen 7 owners will take over the world.....

As sotal said but the lift is at 6200rpm... It takes a little bit to get there but when you get used to it the car is awesome.

Things to look for:

1. Boot struts as mentioned

2. alloys. Should look like new... some were prone to bubblin (replaced under warrenty)

3. Hubs were prone to rusting.

Other than that I think one gen 7 should drive as good as the next.

Insurance for me 29 full no claims paid 620.... not too bad. Shop around a few places wouldn't insure me. The Joys of living in Amazingstoke (Sorry Basingstoke...)

Hmm... Have a long hard think about it mate.... Once you have the 140... and see a 190 in the 6 to 8000 rev zone you'll cry.....

I would suggest you drive both (try and borrow each for a day...)

Saying that both cars perform very similarly upto 6K so it depends on how you drive!

Good luck though. I don't think you will regret buying either...

Re alloys replaced under warranty, just got my wife a 'V' reg 2000 Gen 7, with dodgy wheels, I guess it's to late now for a Warranty claim? If so ideas on refurb. where how much, and can I get loan wheels while job is done?

Thanks

Dave
