Fao: Those Who Have Fitted Undercar Lights

Firstly, Hello - I'm a newb! So hi all - I have found this Yaris forum very useful over the past year of owning a Yaris! But i'm now need of some assistance.

I'm about to buy a set of Under Car LED's - probably green for my silver Yaris.

My car is only one year old, and I would rather not drill holes etc.. into the car for the fitting of the LED bars as I may sell my yaris in a year or 2, for most probably another Yaris.... might go for the TS this time, as insurance will come down :-)

So has anyone that has done this before found an alternative way of attaching them to the under-car.

Also help on wiring to Battery and getting the 'control box' to the inside of the car would be greatful too.

I'm not really 'car-tech' minded - and I'd be greatful if we could skip the 'why do you want to put neons on your car' lol - as I know there are a few that just shake their head to the thought.

Many Thanks,

Sinfayth

DONT DO IT!

I agree. I didnt put mines on because my local mechanic said that some of the ones he fitted came back with water inside the tubes and some were even broken. I live in scotland where it rains all the time and theres pot holes everywhere! Your weather and road conditions may differ though. You would wire this to your Battery the same way you would wire an amp, look for the grommit in the engine bay (behind battery). Feed your wires through there to get to your connection.

Is it so you can see when you've run over stuff?  :D

Not a bad idea - my route to college is well known for many animal collisions...

Thanks for your comments, many have said the same - they easily get broken etc... LED's i presume are better at withstanding road clutter than neons I presume?

ta for the wiring help!

i dont think it is possible to fit tubes without drilling at all!!! i mean you could use contact adhesive and epoxy resin or even cable ties but it would not be secure..... anyhows it looks a bit..... ummm well you can guess what i think! :)

you get your litttle car jack from out of the boot, jack the car up next to one wheel and drill hole in there, lower jack, then jack it up near the other wheel and drill hole. Jack has to be practically all the way up.

Use a small drill. I used the hooks that came with mine, and drilled those in. Its a !Removed!, make sure you use the correct drill piece, and put lots of effort into it as it takes a while.

I then thought it looked crap because you could see the tubes. The clips in the kit make it hang low and not up to the underside, so i took them all off and found thick cable ties, drilled a hole in the middle of them and then screwed them into the holes. Then held the tube up under the bit where the cable tie was screwed in and then tie the cable tie as tight as possible. It raises it - good idea me thinks

look, there is only 1 type of person in the UK that has neons on their car...

Now ask yourself - do you want to be associated with them?

They break easily.. stones etc on the road.. no way to avoid them either... don't do it.

Save your money and spend it on something more practical. I don’t know anyone who is impressed by neon’s!

Ask yourself one question...

When you pass a car with glowing washer jets or a glowing underside, what do you think? Because that’s what people will think of you!

Thanks for the input guys!

I will take all your points into consideration - and If it looks c*rap then they will be coming off straight away!

Otherwise I'll put piccies up for all to see :-)

They will still look c*rap! Save your money and spend it on something more worthwhile.

Neon’s on a Yaris = Don’t go there!! There’re embarrassing! Get some fluffy dice instead

To be totally honest here guys....

Who gives a $hit!!!!

Its everyone's personal taste what they do with their cars.. just because -YOU- dont think it looks good... or dont like it... doesnt mean -THEY- feel the same....

When I see cars with the washer LEDs and LEDs in numberplates etc I do think 'Chav'...especially seeing as these are generally determined to be illegal..... but not when I see an underlight... I actually have seen some lovely cars done with an underlight.... Celica... RX7... to name a couple, and -they- do impress me... I like it... ok so its a Yaris... its not a flashy sporty car... but its no one's decision but the owner's....

Granted.. I personally wouldnt put one on my Yaris... top of the list as to why being..... I am not keeping the car much longer... plus.. what colour goes with Flame Gold! :P

But I have seen some really nice looking underlit cars... and tbh i actually think they look ok if done properly and you have them all working....

It is a matter of -PERSONAL TASTE- some people like fitting spoilers, eyebrows, huge alloys.... some people like neons... underlit and otherwise.... some people prefer to keep their cars looking standard... others like to go all out to be different...

If we were all the same it would be damn boring!

If you want to do it.. do it...if you dont.... hey... its not your car so who cares....

Why couldnt people have respected the request of this poster and -not- gone down the route of 'dont do it'

</rant>

Sorry.... just annoys me when people try to squash the creativity of others by peer pressure and make them feel bad when they want to do something different...

To me a 'Chav' is determined by a multitude of things... only one of which being the mods you have on your car.....I know people who consider anyone who 'mods' their car as Chavs.. and we know this isnt the case.
