Can anyone give me an explanation as to why I have an ABS warning light on but my mechanic confirms that the ABS is working at 100% efficiency. This has just resulted in a MOT failure.

test the brakes yourself and see if you go into a skid on any of the wheels.

The brakes have been tested and the are pulling straight and level. No skidding or locking up what so ever

Toyota should test them for free (ie they will plug the diagnostic machine in) That will bring up a fault code to tell you what to replace (or what is faulty atleast)

Then you've got two options

a) take the abs bulb out for the MOT

B) get it fixed and feel happy that your car will be safe!!

There is also a recent post about how to get the fault codes from the diagnostics connector - search the forum to find it!

you cant take the bulb out for the mot , cos the mot guy sends a 12v power suppy the other way and the abs light is meant to light up.I KNOW , I TRIED IT AND FAILED LOL.

The Toyota workshop manual has this down as a possible cause...

"ABS warning light comes on while running"

1) Faulty ECU connector,

2) faulty power circuit,

3) Short circuit in wire harness between ECU terminal WA and short pin or warning light ,

4) Inspect solenoid relay.

So go give all thABS wiring plugs a push and wiggle under the bonnet, also check the plug to the ABS ECU....Good luck.
