Hi

Does anyone know where I can getan English version of the 1.3 Cynos handbook as mine is in Japanese?

Thanks

Darren

There is a PASEO convertible like mine, there is no cynos unless it's from japan, and i'm not even sure they imported them back from California to rebadge them as cynos. additionally, all paseos have 1.5L unless you've done an engine swap to a starlet motor, in which case a manual for either car would be incomplete. check eBay, i know they have many paseo manuals here for sale. what year is your car?

The car I have is a 1997 Cynos 1.3l, this car was shipped back from ASC in the States and sold in Japan as a Cynos, everything in her is in Japanese even the info in the sun visors.

I have had a bit of trouble with the engine size as even the isurance companies here only recognise a 1.5l engine, but I am almost certain everything in her is standard and factory fitted except th alloys as for some reason when she was in Japan they where changed.

My Cynos has been in the UK for 5 years and shipped over here by a company called Charlesworths just outside Nottingham and has only 1 owner before me.

Where did you get yours from the States? Its stunning.

I had a red Paseo hardtop just like yours back in 2000 and it was a fantastic car.

Have you done anything to her or are you keeping her standard?

very interesting story! I don't know if i'll ever keep a car standard, and as far as i know, mine's the fastest convertible around. i don't think i've listed my mods here in a while, so here goes:

Freedom design front upper strut bar

NGK spark wires

NGK Iridium spark plugs

Weapon R intake with K&N filter

Pacesetter header

OBX racing resonator

Custom 2.25" mandrel bent cat-back exhaust

Magnaflow back box

ASP underdrive racing pulley (going on soon)

Pioneer Speakers, Alpine headunit

Xenon/Krypton headlamps

and a couple other small things

I see you know your history on convertibles, that's good to know. most people don't research as much as i do, and i respect you for knowing what you're talking about! is yours the starlet turbo'd motor, or perhaps the 4efe? do you know the engine code? stock paseos have 5efe's, jap cynoses have 5efhe's and the starlet's is the 4efte.

Its probably the 4e-fe 1300cc normally aspirated.

i think you'll find that he has the 1.3 cynos with the 3efe engine, paseo's in japan basically had a choice of 3 engines:

5efe - 93hp

5efhe - 110hp

3efe - 83hp

and as such, unlike the coupe paseo whose model denomination is EL54, the 3efe is the EL52 in japan. I think the convertible only came with the 5efe and 3efe. Hope that helps...about manuals, i dont know what you can do because im unsure of the similarity between the 5efe and 3efe but they should be fairly similar, so you can try getting one of those paseo manuals on eBay (theyre massive and very technical, not like a normal manual) otherwise you could possibly ask a toyota dealers..

hope that helps!

He actually said it's the 4efe like i thought. "It's the only part of the car that's not in Japanese," he said lol. anyway, another mystery solved. I was totally unaware that they produced a cynos conv. i guess you learn something each day! :hokus-pokus:

You should be able to order a UK Paseo handbook from Toyota, or a US spec one from America (maybe someone on this site could help)

I've got the workshop manual for the Paseo from America. Its useful

 Cheers for that. I have tried contacting my local toyota dealer but they didn't know where to get it and I have tried to find details of somewhere in the states with no louck.

I have got another problem as it turns out I am one of only a few people with a 1.3l Cynos convertible.

Any ideas?
