G6 On 17"s

hi,

i've got a G6 with 205/45x17 tyres.

just wondering what tyre pressures should be cos i've been setting them to 34psi (2psi above normal) due to the lower profile walls which are obviously stiffer. my tyre tread is still wearing on the outer edges of the tyres, which indicates that the pressure is still too low. :ffs:

could anyone please tell me what thier pressures are with 17" wheels and how thier tyres are wearing.

thanks,

Rolly_Mo.

Err... i'd have thought your tracking/wheel alignment is out, if this is happening.

sounds to me like your trackings out too. ive got 17s but with 40series tyres and i keep the pressures at 30psi which is about right unless someone else knows better??

If on the original 14 inch wheel and tyre set up then 29-33psi is fine. If carying rear passengers all the time then rear tyre pressure wants to be at least 30psi.

On the AE111 (1997-2001) If wearing 14inch tyres it states 36psi on the 'glovebox' label  this I think is far to high for UK road surfaces.

the size of the tyre is not the issue with any of this as pressure is measure in POUNDS SQUARE INCHES ! the different tyre sizes mean you have different amounts of square inches to fill, the pressure is always the same.

Look at the standard corolla recommended tyre pressures and there you go its the correct amount of pressure per square inch for the weight of the car.

Dont listen to or make up any of that bull***** about smaller side walls needing more pressure etc, if that was the case tyre companies would have to issue a warning/guide with every tyre.

With my AE111 Corolla GS when I put 36+ psi in my after market wheels and low profile tyres the steering felt vague (36psi was what was recommended with standard 14inch wheels).

So I tried (as advised by the wheel/tyre shop) lower pressure eg. around 30psi and car gripped better and steering seemed more positive. This was two years ago and tyres have hardly worn down.

Tire pressure should be at 36psi. I run light weight 15's on my G6R and its fine, rolls good and no speed/handling loss. If your outside wall is worn and the rest is fine, it may be your tracking or camber, it could also be the cause of hard cornering as mine is always worn through corners and my trackings fine. <_<
