i recently found a turbo kit for the 1.0l yaris and i was wanting to know if it would fit onto my 1.3 yaris blue. the engine on the pictures looks the same layout but i don't know about the internals. if i run it at low compression (which it will already be) should it be ok?

let me know

Andy

You found it on TDI right? Give them a bell, they'll know more about it than any of us on here (well OK, apart from one person i suspect!). Sorry to be blunt, but it's going to work out easiest if you call them about it, because you haven't had much luck on here regarding the turbo onto a phase 2 1.3 in the past couple of days

Engines are from the same series, so should fit. You will want it to run at low boost, around 7-8 PSI on the stock internals. If you want to run higher boost levels you are definately looking at a better conrods/pistons combo like Crower, Carillo... and JE, Ross... to lower the compression ratio.

You will also run into issues with the stock ECU; even though a full ECU replacement like a Motec would seem the best option it will be unable to run a number of ancillaries (sp) that also depend on the stock ECU and to the best of my knowledge no aftermarket ECU has proven able to properly control the VVT-i system. Seeing that of most concern will be to !Removed! the ignition timing it might be worth to look into a piggyback system like Megasquirt'n'Spark.

Best person on here for first hand information would be Yaris WRC as he had the turbo fitted by TDI. And as paphos said, have a chat with the people at TDI.

Yves.

Yves, if I'm not mistaken, the turbo kits come with a piggy back ECU. But the piggy back was designed for the Jap spec Vitz, and so you need to change over the ECUs?

Aha, thanks for the info, I had the idea they were meant for the US Echo version. Anyways, I would have 2 concerns going down that route; firstly is that it might be setup for the 1.0's ECU which has a different map programming than the 1.3, again on the subject of tuneability of this piggyback you really should have a chat with TDI. Secondly, and this is solely my humble opinion, is that a system like Megasquirt'n'Spark has a great degree of tuneability and is able to work with a number of different methods (think sequential injection) and would be better suited for the application if you would like to up the boost to more than 7-8 PSI.

Quite a hefty wad of cash if i'm not mistaken, can't give exact price though

They could be for the US Echo version. I could be wrong. But I know that the Blitz supercharger for T-Sport comes with a piggyback ECU

ALL SUPERCHARGERS ARE SELF LUBRICATING AND KITS INCLUDE:

-ECU

-MANIFOLD

-INDUCTION KIT

-FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER

-ALL HARDWARE AND MOUNTING PARTS INCLCUDED.

*THIS KIT WILL ONLY BE SUITABLE FOR THE JAPANESE IMPORT MODELS, AS THERE ARE A FEW DIFFERENCE ON THE ECU.

But i've seen somewhere that the Turbo for the 1.0l also comes with a piggyback...I think!

I have installed the HKS turbo kit on my Yaris 1.0, 2 years and 25.000 km ago. The piggy back computer is an HKS Fcon mini which turned out to cooperate perfectly with the stock ECU. Among other minor modifications I have installed a hand-made 50 mm stainless steel exhaust with a racing catalyst from AMERICAT.

You can see the results here http://www.yarisclub.gr/files/dynorun3_205.gif

The curve is not so normal because of my warn-out clutch ;)

Don' t worry a bit about the piggy back ECU. It works perfectly

Where in Greece did you get the turbo from?

I ordered it from Japan (Takakaira, 228.000 Y + postage = 275.000 Y) and installed it with a friend of mine who is a mechanic. One day job !!!

You don't need one extra. The Fcon-mini already programmed is included in the package from HKS.

The only problem I had was with the HKS air intake. Its filtering capability is very low  so I constantly had a very dusty Air Flow Meter. I replaced it with an Apexi Power Intake and ... problem solved !

I think that the best solution is to install all the mechanical parts and then add a Greddy e-manage piggy-back ECU which will take care all the fuel-ignition maps.

Id say id have to agree with matt on this 1, droppping a turbo onto a 1ltr or a 1.3 will only get you closer to the power of a t sport, for the money, ur best option would be to upgrade and then play with performance mods, car will last longer in the long run and will be fastest in its class

Each to their own tho and repect for doing it to any model

turboed 1.3, same power as a tsport, except the tsport doesnt have lag etc and mainteance....

Higher insurance....

Less braking on the 1.3 (two calipers, 4 on a tsport)

You are gonna spend more on turboing it and youll still have the ***** interior as apposed to the tsport seats and better interior, with better braking....

if you turbo the 1.3, you will definatly have to improve the tyres, brakes, suspension and seats (if you like to go fast :D round corners :D)
