Help: Towbar Wiring Connection

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi

ok i have looked all over the rear, and i took off the RH quarter panel but i could not find any type of connector for the towbar electrics.

However when i took the cover off the LH quarter panel (where the jack is stored)

i have found a socket (white), i have checked the pins in the socket and there seems to be no RH Indicator point, i have found:

Side lights

Break lights

LH Indicator

No earth and no RH indicator.

Is this the right socket ??

anyone Help?

Hi

Don't know about your specific model, but when I came to put a tow bar on a Rav4 it was not as simple as just pluging into a socket. Toyota had a special wiring harness and relay that cost arround £80. To connect it you had to undo a couple of existing conectors for the lighting and the new loom plugged into both the male and female half of each of the conector pairs (ie it effectively broke out the necessary signals from the existing connectors). In addition a special power lead had to be run from the Battery to power the new special relay for the extra load.

I suggest you go to your toyota spares and ask how much the genuine tow bar wiring loom costs and if they can print you off a couple of pages from the fitting instructions.

It could be simple or it could be cunningly Japanese !!

Hi

Thanks for your reply (Ian)

I do know that this is the right connector, and i do have an

Indicator relay unit that has a buzzer(only buzz when trailer is

connected), also have a split charge relay.

All these parts where in the fitting kit (not a Toyota one), as a temp

thing i have taken a wire from the r\h Indicator and took it across to the l\h side where all my wiring is(behind jack cover).

I just can not see why there is no r\h Indicator connection on the

connector!, everything else is there.

Thanks again

Howard
