I noticed pitting on my allows after just 1000 miles. At 5000 miles it's seriously bad.

Anybody with a new Corollo noticed this?

common, covered under warranty, a few posts on here about it.

Cheers. I'll mention it to my dealer. Trouble is, even if they replace the wheels, it will just re-occur. Unless of course they would like to supply some superior alloys :D

It's nothing new,

My '89 AE92 GTi when I bought it at 4 years old in 1993 had to have the Toyota alloys refurbished before I bought it. Then they recoroded two years later so I bought a set of TSW Stealths which are still on the car now and have never blemished. Unlike the TSW Apex's which I bought for my other Toyota 2 years ago which have chipped bad in such a short space of time but are being replaced for free this month.

My wheels started going down hill after 2yrs 40000miles, got them changed under warranty. I was told there can be bad batches of alloys, the next set lasted 4 more year until I kerbed them a few times, then it was the perfect excuse to get them refurb'd in another colour

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is 'pitting'?

I only ask as my late 2004 Avensis wheels are collecting lots of speckled dirt in the corner of the alloys, something which my Corolla never suffered. This collection of black stuff is really difficult to shift (I was the car weekly) and I have the scrape it off.

I assume it's brake dust, but could the alloys be 'pitted' and the dust is collecting in the damage and therefore difficult to get clean?

  • 3 months later...

Toyota have changed their alloy wheel supplier as the old one has gone bump. This is good news as the new wheels are of a much higher quality . Hopefully this should end the pitting problems which dent the otherwise great reputation of Toyota's

I relate pitting to be more like bubbling and flaking of the surface material on the wheel. The black speckles I would assimilate with with brake dust. Some brake pads give off excessive ammounts of dust that "bakes" itself to the alloy. A decent wheel cleaner should remove this dust. The area could be pitted and the dust nicely stuck in the pits amking it more difficult to shift.

Lexus also suffered from poor quality alloys doing this too.
