Hi folks,

Newbie question, I have a 95 celica st which I love to peices except a knocking from the r/o/s which sound like the exaust knocking but i can't find anything loose underneath or in the boot. It's driving me mad!!

Any suggestions where to start looking?/

Many Thanks!

Most likely an antiroll bar bush. It sounds exactly like the exhaust knocking. The bush itself does not usually look obviously bad. Try wobbling the car side to side by pushing on the c pillar, that's how I identified it on mine.

I agree with Mikeb, if its a gen 6 celica with a knock at the back, its 99% going to be anti roll bars bushes to body :) .

if the anti roll bar looks shiney and worn wrap some thin rubber inner tube ( single layer ) around it first then put the brackets on.new bushes dont always get rid of the knocking when the bar itself is worn.bushes are around £ 10 a pair from toyota dealers.

please call me marc, much easier . after i lowered it the ride control was better but the quality was !Removed!. drop links you refer to are the small link arms ??? easiest way to get more life outa those is to whack em with a 4lb hammer , the ball joint soon tightens up. these are around £ 85 each and i dont see them making much of a diff on the rear end to be honest , they only tie 1 side to the other.BUT its up to you matey.

I've got exactly the same problem. sounds like somethings loose in the boot almost. I had a mechanic look at it last year with no luck. he changed rear shocks, anti roll bar bushes etc but not sure about link arms.

When i spoke to a chap from Toyota he suggested changing the link arms. My local mechanic is convined it's coming from the boot lid itself. When you have the boot lid raised try moving the lid up and down slightly this seems to cause afew thud noises. I'm still not sure so I'm taking the boot off today to rule that out. I love my celica 2.0Gt convertable but its driving me nuts. <_<

matt try dropping the boot catch down slightly , so it closes tighter., its only 2 x 10mm nuts to loosen.
