On my 2001 avansis the workshop build in a vdo tempostat GC 12 volt cruise control. When I turn it on there is a klicking noise like a tooth that slips over something. Does anyone know if this is normal because in the workshop they say that it is normal but my feeling says it isn't. You hear it activate and thats normal I suppose but after that there shouldn't be any noise from this system until it is shut down???

The tns 300 system is perfect but it tells you the way on only the left speaker. Is this normal and which wires do I need to build in a little amplifier to get the noise louther then it is now one its max.level???

My VDO Cruise control for my Avensis 2002 D-4D will be mounted in 2 weeks time so I'll soon find out! The T300 navigation does only sound through the left speaker and I agree, the lower 3 out of 5 volume levels are totally useless! Navigation works nicely, though the actual "turn here" command could come a little bit earlier when not driving in the city.

I am thinking of adding Cruise Control on my Avensis. Can you tell me where you got it fitted and approx how much it cost?

Thanks

OK, I have some experience now with the VDO cruise control now. Expect to pay 600 to 700 euro's (including mounting by my Toyota Dealer) and don't forget to immidiately order the disengagement switch for the clutch-pedal which is optional (approx 35 euro's). When engaging the cruise control you will hear the electrical motor make a fast winding noise. After engaging you can adjust the speed + or - by tipping the handle up/down, one tip for 1 km/h or by holding up or down until you reach the appropriate speed. Disengage by pushing the handle away, braking or shifting gear. Resume by pulling the handle towards you. Just don't try to activate the cruise control while braking or holding down the clutch pedal: the system will shutdown and can only be reactivated by a power down (meaning switch off the engine!). This is a "safety feature" of VDO. Disengaging releases the gaspedal instantly so it will spring back by its own spring which is clearly hearable.

All in total: a very nice extra for the long rides, beats me why Toyota did not install it in the luxery versions right away!
