:help: i have recently purchased a 2ltr tt aerotop (jap import) and my problems are that it has a different auto box than my 3ltr turbo (uk car) the box on the imported car has 3 settings ie econ, manual, pwr. and not having a drivers handbook which would probably be in japanese anyway I dont really know if i'm useing the right settings could anybody give me any info on what speeds each of the settings should be used my other problem is that if i kick the throttle down in any of the modes the rev counter will go from say for talking sake 3000rpm to 4000rpm in a nano second but the speed takes its time catching up with the engine revs almost as if the car was a manual box with a slipping clutch could this be the torque converter Iwould be greatful for any help you guys & gals could give me both cars are mk3's thanks

hi...

well, the jap autoboxes have a 'pwr' and 'manu' .

'Pwr' button increases the shift speed by reducing the ignition retardation time that normally happens on the box for a smoother shift. It also increases the rev point at which the gearbox will change gear (although this only applies to partial throttle, a full foot back throttle will still redline despite the button being pressed or not).

'Manu' locks the gearbox in the selected gear. IIe put the stickshift in 2 and hit manu and you'll find you launch in second instead of first. I think it also decreases the lockup point.

Its purpose was to aid traction in slippy conditions such as snow etc.

as for the slippage.. i'd suggest a complete oil flush.. you need to remove ALL the ATF fluid (about eight litres) and replace with dexronII. Make sure you do a TOTAL flush as opposed to a partial flush which only removes about 2 litres.

Oh, and pop over to the owners group.. i'll PM you the address.

from memory you're looking at about £150 for 16 litres of fluid.. you only need 8 to fill it but the flush process generally wastes a lot.

Is that all? a few hundred quid? Usually in regards to a Supra and the word 'expensive' you assume near a grand. lol

I'll get my garage to do that

nah its only fluid :D but i mean its expensive compared to dexII !

pkeeky, £115 is rip off. A decent autobox specialist will charge you about £60.= for a full flush.
