hi all

just spring cleaning my new purchase and i want to start on a level field, i am looking to pop in some new oil, new filters and new plugs ( anything else i missed i am grateful for the reminder)

what are we running with regard to this, and should i stick with the stock filter or go for one of these cold air induction kits ?? edited a bit kn induction kits was what i was aiming at

side note

i am buying a new set of wheels and i am either going devil tiitanium 253 in black on crome or bk racing 240 17 " and have been advised to get 215 45 17 as celicas arches are quite big advice would be appreciated :)

just fitted my blitz induction kit and i lov ethe noise

but it could be worth calling up fensport and buying a blitz panel filter not a massive increase in power but a good bit of kit

more likely u lost performance TBH, that looks like it'l draw in lots of warm air. The noise makes u think ur going faster!

apparently because of the steel design, the air is colder,

im hoping to get the atcual intake widened when the good weather starts

Who told you that one?:lol: And who says a wider intake will make an improvement? Possibly to peak power, but reducing the gas speed will have an adverse effect on torque everywhere else in the range.

Parmo - don't bother about an induction kit, it will just generate more noise, and may even loose you power. Unless you want your car to sound faster then it's a waste of money. I am unsure about these aftermarket panel filters, I mean if they flow more air then they surely must be not as good at picking up small particles?

Yes and no. A high quality air filter will flow more air. But an aftermarket air filter not situated in an airbox will draw warm air produced by the engine unless ducted to cold incoming air from the front of the car. Hence "RAM AIR" ,Oxygen whilst cold is more dense so in theory you should be able to chuck in more fuel...Ie more air and fuel equals bigger bang producing bigger hp.

I must add further -

'Cold Air Induction Kit' implies the air going into this filter will become colder?

N/A or Normally Asperated engines draw air from the atmosphere, at the given atmospheric pressure of your location and at the ambient temperature of your location.

How does it become colder? is it a magic filter?

Where will the 'cold air induction kit' get the cold air from in the height of summer, in a traffic jam at midday with the weather in the 30's?

Granted, as air speeds up it becomes colder, but the only way to get enough of it in to make a noticeable gain in BHP is to 'force' it in. hence Turbo's, superchargers and Nitrous - all fitted to 'F/I or Forced Induction cars'.

Induction kits and exhausts on N/A cars may raise the throttle response but it wont make it faster realy and the air will certainly not be colder because of a cone filter.

I run a Blitz on my ST185 and it 'sounds excellent' however it is also a 'high Flow' filter allowing more air into the throttle body - fact. A small air dam could be built with a secondary air feed. this is often achieved by relocating the Battery to the boot but can be done easily on the N/A celica due to the non existant turbo, hence more space for the air dam. This should have a heat reflective covering on the outside and insulation on the inside, the type that can be robbed from a fridge, this would ensure the filter isnt fed warm engine bay air, temps are in the region of 45-50 degrees under normal driving conditions.

However, when the charge is atomised has anyone on here got an idea what tempertaure it reaches before it is ignited, considering the temps are around 15 degrees C higher than an average summer day, how important is it to shave induction temps by that margin?

IMHO filter mods 'look & sound' better and give the car better response - A K&N panel filter which fits in the stock box gives the sound and the high flow of air without giving up the 'protection' from the heat box it sits in.

drill half a dozen holes in the stock air box and get that rasp of a cone filter - except it 'looks' stock to anyone that should want to investigate you engine bay.
