Alternator Upgrade -> Worthwhile?

The standard alternator for this engine model pumps out 70A, if I'm not mistaken.

Mine's up for replacement, and I was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a higher amperage, if that's even possible.

So, the questions are: Is it possible to fit an uprated alternator, and if so, where do I find one?

And is it actually worth the potential expense and the shlep of fitting it. I'm not going to use anything high-current in the car, possibly an amp and a sub later, and a few gadgets up front (think carkit and GPS), but nothing too serious.

And, are there any obvious advantages to having a higher-output alternator fitted?

Thanks

:huh:

No need for 'upgraded' alternator with most cars these days and certainly no need for your corolla.

In ye days of olde it was normal to go from Dynamo to alternator if extra lights (such as a set of CIBIES) were being fitted on something like a MK1 Escort, Mini or Austin A35 etc.

Just replace with same that is required

My old 'Min' still runs a Dynamo and when it's a rainy day and I have the Fan heater on (Which is useless :D ), wipers going, and lights on then I put an indicator on the flasher 'clicks' very slow then if I turn the heater off the flasher speeds up :lol::lol:

...don't even ask what happens if the Cibies get put on :lol:

Ah the joys of 'banger motoring'
