i am thinking about buying an mr2 in the near future and would like some advice. first off, which model do i buy?

i really like the look of the mk1 but would like the speed of the mk2.

i currently own a 1986 audi quattro so i am no stranger to the perils of owning an old car. <_<

however i would love to experience the power of the 2 litre engine in the mr2, so i was wondering is it possible to do an engine conversion, ie. take a mk2 engine and put it in the mk1?

i think this would make an excellent project car with huge potential however i don't want to get into anything too complicated.

any advice much appreciated.

cheers :)

Well... if you do decide to go extreme... I know people have put a 3S-GTE engine (MkII MR2 Turbo) into a MkI MR2.

So... yes, the MkII engine will fit... but it will be a lot of work.

Don't forget the MkI is a lot lighter anyway, so bare in mind the power to weigth ratio... and they also say the MkI was better handling... [start argument].

If you don't want to get into anything too complicated... don't put a MkII engine in a MkI... find someone who's already done it and buy their's!

Just bite the bullet and buy a Rev3+ Tubby!!! ;) :D

While the Mk1 has a small engine bay... it also has a boot just next door. I know of a number of conversions where they just cut the bulkhead out to make room for any number of conventional lumps.

Or there's always a supercharged Mk1... they're fast as hell and rolled out of the factory like that!

I've driven plenty of supercharged Mk1's around circuits.

There great little cars with plenty of feedback and good handlers,

first job though, uprate the brakes. ;)
