just as i was driving to work, strange clunking sounds came from the left rear of my 95 lucida...everytime i encountered a bump or pothole, the sound became louder...could this have something to do with the wheel, or with the suspension?

This is going to sound really stupid but have you checked your spare tyre bracket thing? it could be that it's worked loose and thats whats caused is the noise especially over pot holes and bumps, ours did it for a bit but since tightening up the bracket I have'nt noticed it .
