Ref a previous post....

The alarm on my CTS has a tendancy to go off within an hour or two after I have driven it and it is stood.

A faulty bonnet switch has been suggested as the culprit...... but where is this located?????? I've been over the engine compartment with a fine toothcomb this morning but an alarm bonnet switch I cannot find. :help:

Another suggested cause has been leaving the airvents open which leads to a pressure change inside the vehicle. So I have ensured the air-vents are left closed.

This morning I happened to be stood next to my CTS and a strong gust of wind came........off went the alarm.....my daugter who was inside the house heard the gust of wind and then heard the alarm and commented, that gust of wind did that.....

So if the vents are closed and the alarm is activated by a gust of wind does anybody have any idea as to the cause.....is the CTS fitted with some sort of anti-jacking/lifting sensor which is being activated on mine (Adjustnet needed maybey???)

ohh and where the :censor: is the alarm bonnet switch.

Cheers.........

just sounds like your alarm sensitivity is set too high.

My thoughts too......any idea how you reduce it without taking to a dealer or is it a dealer fix only issue??

Check red security light when you set alarm. Should be solid red for about 30 seconds then flash. If flashes straight away you ave problem and i'm convinced it's the same as mine. The scenario you describe is so similar.

Bonnet Switch is located top right, about 18 inches in from the wing, on bulkhead directly below windscreen. Small black cone shape about half inch diameter. Try taping it down as temporary measure and see how it goes.

Bonnet expands as engine heats and due to its shape pushes the switch down, when engine cools alarm goes off...i was told...we're talking the thickness of a pin

Sensitivity as far as i know on CTS is just the movement sensor in the interior light in the car, not caused by vibration or wind. But no 100% on this

Need to know answer as Toyota NO this problem existed 3 years ago, and have maybe no fixed.

It drove me round the twist, one night my smoke alarm went of in kitchen and I was running for Car Keys :D

Dooooh I'm an idiot I can see it now, you mean that large black conical shaped thing that looks like a errrr bonnet switch.........clearly just couldn't see it for looking before. I will tape it down to see if that effects a temp. solution and if it does I will just 'stickaflex' a small packing piece to the bonnet underside myself where the switch makes contact rather than take to the dealers.

I have to say that observing the bonnet activate the switch as I close it it certainly does not move the switch much..... seems a potential solution...we'll see.

Yer stickaflex solution was my dealers permanent fix, they really should raise switch. Let me know if all quiet !!!

Well I've added a small 2mm thick packing piece and all seems quiet so far......I wait with baited breath.....

Perhaps someone could post the picture of the thing so others could benefit from it

The switch is within the green circle. If your car is different might be on the other side but somewhere around the bonnet lock mechanism.
