You beat me 2 it, we have an Estima at the mo and have really enjoyed it, but when we saw our local import dealer advertising a Granvia we were curious, all he told us was that they have a 3.0l TD Landcruiser engine, they are smoother and more comfortable, would like 2 here from anyone else more in the know!!!

Thanks Mandy and Ian, :P

:Hello! Im a new member & go by the handle (oldcruiser). I recently bought a "Granvia" as I was looking for a smart MPV. I had never seen one before but having had the car three weeks I can only say what a vehicle? It is 3ltr turbo diesel, eight seater automatic. It is one of the nicest cars I have owned. Extremely powerful a joy to drive and own. I had special alloy wheels with white wall tyres fitted (im just an ol tart) and it looks a treat. The downside? it is a bit thirsty averaging 25-30mpg. but so what believe me a real pleasure to own and drive.

Happy motoring, Oldcruiser. :D

My name is Mark Allen and Yes I am an Import Dealer.

I do not know in any shape or form everything about these cars but the principles always stay the same with imports especially those from Japan.

Please check the technical and specification and model details here---

http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/toyota/granvia/

The same engine 1 KZ-TE 3.0 td is also in the Hilux Surf 08/1993 onwards, the Landcruiser Prado, and also others. So parts etc are not a problem.

The key is the history of a car, if you buy through the right sources, service history and most importantly the Japanese Auction report (98% of cars pass through this Auction system) should be available, if not log on to BIMTA.co.uk and with chassis number in hand they will verify the history of the car in Japan much the same companies can over here, mileage credit theft etc, also get you a copy of the Auction report showing you if this car was an Accident repair or worse still the mileage tampered with.

With regard to the Granvia they started selling them in Japan in August 1995 so currently all cars coming in would need an SVA and Mot , however as soon as they reach 10 years old just MOT them and register and away you go.

Hope that helps

Don't Hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

I bought a Granvia last month and am very happy with it. Very easy to handle, has great power when you need it and it's very comfortable for all eight occupants. However they are very new into the country and I have a few problems - 1) How do you change the radio? I can't manage to get the trim lifted enough to get a new unit fitted. Any ideas?

and 2) I bought it with just one (1) key. The key is also an engine immobiliser. When I went to a Toyota garage to get a new one cut/made it would cost £155 plus VAT, would take up to six weeks to get the codes and they would not guarantee it would work - anybody else have trouble like this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

problem 1) the aftermaket stereo do fit, if u got the right bucket, also it will need two plastic to cover hole on both side, as original one too big. i can e-mail u some pics on mine, but i lost one plastic, so one side still got hole.

2) don't think japanese import has immobiliser, as they don't even use alarm.

only remote c/l lock they use, if u got that four 5 digi number either from ket or lock , u can order from dealer, £20 +vat and take 2days to order with your V5

ask for 96-on hi-ace power van key

Thanks for the reply - I'll definately go back to the dealer on the issue of the keys. Re the stereo - would appreciate pics to my email (jr@1-inter.net) - I couldn't get the trim to lift far enough to even get at the radio. It sounded like something was going to snap so I stopped lifting after removing the two screws above the ash tray.

Thanks

on a 96 granvia to remove the radio surrond undo the 2 screws at the ash tray

and then go to the top of the surrond up by the 2 vents and hazzard light switch

and pull it back central at the top.

the clip just pushes in once realeased it isbest to disconect the wires going in to

various switches then you can pull surrond completely away then to remove radio

undo 4 retaining screws and it will pull straight out

you can buy uk double din systems what cost me £700 3years ago seem to be available on eBay for £300 which have dvd tv radio cd all in the system

you can use the fixing brackets from your old unit to fit the new one in

I read about Buesun's key problem and jezzero's reply with interest, as my Granvia remote-control has stopped working, even with a new Battery. I took the key to my local Toyota dealer, who said that the 5-digit code on the key was only to identify the blank shape and that he could order a new uncut key with remote, which I could then have copy-cut by a locksmith. The quote for the key was £84, so could Jezzero give some more info on how he got one for £20? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

i have had a granvia now for 3 weeeks, it goes very well, its a 7 seater 2 wheel drive, in reasonable condition, with only a few gadjets, the main van is a hiace power van, the engine is a bog standard toyota engine, all mechanical parts are easy to get from your local toyota agent, fuel consumption, if you get 25 to the gallon you will be lucky, more like 20, but i dont hang around, there is no point in having 3ltr and !Removed! footing about,

Hi Buesun

Thanks for the reply. I didn't doubt what you said, just couldn't understand the price difference. It seems like your £20 key was just a plain, non-C/L key, whereas my quote was for a replacement C/L type - although they weren't certain that it would work without a reprogramming session in their workshop.

My son is a radio engineer and he tested my key with one of his receivers and said that it wasn't putting out a signal, so I guess the vehicle's receiver is ok. I tried to get the sender out of the key to check, but it's moulded in, so no joy there. I just think £84 plus cutting, plus programming and so on is ridiculous.

hi raymundo

think u will be spend too much money to get the original c/l key works,

why u don't just fit other alarm which has remote C/L option,

also i am not sure dose the uk dealer can be programming it, seem the uk dealer never sell toyota got key & remote C/L all in one, they always chip with key, then other box for Remote C/L,
