Gutted My Celica

Hey people...

Well, i had been getting some rattles in my car and had been thinking about new Speakers in the rear so today i made the decision to gut all rear seats and panels out and start from scratch putting back together to soundproof and eliminate rattles as best as possible.

Any ideas or suggestions to materials to use or what i should do?

I think i am getting more rattles than most celica drivers due to my journey to and from work every day which includes a 1/2 mile over cobbles!!!! Cant help i wouldnt think

U guys have been of help so far cos i have a clunk at the rear of my car and i saw a number of posts referring to a Anti Roll Bush and this sound just like my problem

So im willing to consider and try to use any advice u can give before putting things back together :)

Actually looks kinda cool so empty. hahaha :lol:

Cheers dymchurchpaseo.

Guess i should put somethign down on the floor which will be expensive and i have upholstery foam to try in the panels. Also heard of stuff called brown bread but dont know if thats any good.

Cheers for ur input!

BTW - how the heck do u get a picture of your car as an avatar? I only get option to select an address. can i not just upload my own pic?

put pics on photbucket first, copy the adress photobucket gives you and paste this in adress box on toc , delete the http\\ bit toc puts on first though as its included in the adress photobucket gives you.

rear anti roll bar bushes is the cause of many a rattly celica and the first step towards ridding it of annoying rattles.

Thanks guys.

Photobucket worked grear maleborn.

Its not a great pic but at least i have something for now. I REALLY need a grill for the front of my celica.

Any more padding, insulating, soundproofing opinions and ideas still VERY welcome.... then i can think about rebuilding (TRYING!!) haha :D

if you are after that grill for the front of the celica, I posted about it not long after I got mine:

Summary:

Most Celicas never even came with the grille  if it didn't come with one you will have a black bar connecting across the four plastic clips which hold it in place!

A new one was only £20ish pounds and dead easy to fit - other members used a bit of mesh to make one.

They all need one, your radiator gets knackered quick, and your car stinks when a bird embeds itself in the rad!

On the point of clunking sounds from the Anti-Roll Bar Bush......how easy are these to change..... it is DIY job.......keeping in mind that although reasonably competent with a spanner, I currently have to keep my lovely sparkling Celica on the roadside and do any work there.

Hi m8 just get a 12mm socket(i think) jack the car up undo the 2 bolts ether side and swap bush's it realy that simple , it can be done in les than 10 mins, even toyota dont charge that much to change them , on one of my services the sayed they needed changed and it would £30 including the parts and labour, seeing as the parts are only £10 for the pair your as well doing it yourself.

Thanks Sotal....

Tho i notice something about your celica that is different from mine, have seen it a few times, must be different model or something.... Mine has only 1 big opening with the fog lights in it whereas your has 3 seperate openings with the fogs in them... do you think the grill you used would also suit my shape of front?

And guys ... about the rubber bush, im going to order the parts and see if i can get them fitted in next week.

Also ordering brown bread sound proofing to see how good it is will apply it to the floor first and will let you know what i think of it!

And as usual still looking for alloy wheels as im getting jealous seeing all your in their splendour hahaha :D Not having the best of luck since my first order of wheels over eBay was a fraud and i never got anything  If i could just find this guy :ffs:

Will let you know soon about things and good to hear ur input!

On the point of the anti roll bar bush --- when you guys say jack it up, can you do one side at a time, cahnge wheel style, or does it have to be both at the same time with a trolley jack!?

you can do both together ,but please use axle stands ,if youre not too overweight you can fit underneath without jacking it up at all.

Good point - Yours is a pre-face lift Celica. They changed it around P reg. The things that they changed, that I know of are:

Clear Indicators on the front bumper

Different Front bumper - with the different shapes in it

Bonnet Spoiler Added infront of Windscreen Wipers (like WRC model one from before)

Other than that I don't think there was any other differences.

I just phoned Toyota up to ask about the grille, they asked for my reg number - which I gave they then said it never had a grille when it left the factory but that I could buy one, I asked how much - they told me how much and I ordered one in. Picked it up 2 days later - Fitted it in 10 minutes.

If you want a proper one rather than to make one, then just give Mr T a ring and he'll tell you what will fit

Sotal, cheers for pointing out the differences.... i knew about the front grill but never noticed a spoiler in front of the windscreen before, i need to look.... OR should I? am i going to want one? haha Well i do want a rear spoiler since i dont have one at the moment but lately, just feels like there is so much i need to do before i can even have my celica looking respectable for even turning up to any meets, haha

But cheers for your pointers... im going to contact Mr T again to ask about the grill...wish me luck

I'm now not so sure about the Bonnet Spoiler. I was looking at an R reg celica the other day and that didn't have the bonnet spoiler on it.

I will take a pic of mine and post it in a new topic asking people if they have got one. I thought it was just standard!
