Ipod Into The Yaris. Going To Do It...

... At least that is the current plan.

We've just got our Yaris. It's a phase I 02 GS and it desperately needs some music. So rather than install an auto-changer, I've foolishly promised the wife that we will bite the bullet and try an iPod install.

It's not cheap, but I thought the best way is to put in a Dension Ice Link iPod adapter

First however I need some advice.

Is this the best way to do it?

The requirement is for

Compatible Radios

1 - Toyota radios with one of these numbers printed on fascia and a 12 pin (1 row of 7 pins and 1 row of 5 pins) CD changer connector or empty CD changer socket at the rear:

18201, 18301/2/3, 18401/2/3/4/5/6, 28229, 38409, 56009TV, 58302, 58402/5/6/8, 58801/2/3/4/5/6/7/8, 16408, 86120, T8401, TF0410, TF4300/1, TM4000, TM4410, W58300, W53804, WH8402/3/5/6.

Now the head in the Yaris is marked 18406, but how do I know if it has the correct connector without taking it out? And I'm not taking it out!

It comes with a cradle to hold the IPod itself. Has anyone done this? I'm not sure how to go about it given the unique shape of the Yaris's dashboard.

Crikey, basically I'm about to cough up a fortune and I need your help to make sure I'm not making a numpty out of myself!!!!

Well you'll have to take the headunit out to install the connector in the back won't you? So, i'm sorry, your best bet is to familiarise yourself a bit with taking the unit out (Use one of the How To guides). It's really easy, you shouldn't be afraid of pulling the dash apart! And unless you've got X-Ray vision it's going to be difficult seeing the headunit without taking it out. As regards the cradle I realy don't have a clue, but there must be some way you'll be able to attach it. Unfortunately, that website doesn't have any pictures, which could have helped!

So I just connect the iPod to the head through this in place of an autochanger?

I take it the head just treats the iPod like a seperate single disc player, and it doesn't actually control it?

What bracket did you get for the ice link and how did you install it? It looks rather neat!

Earl doesnt your PC get a bit jumpy? i thought all the throwing around you give to a car (i don't me you personally i just mean drivers) doesn't this cause any effect to the PC? just interested! I have seen the new Ipod adapter systems and they tryin to sell them at £60+ This is madness! I'm sure there is a cheaper alternative (call in the connects 2 adapter :P)

I'd like to connect an AUX interface to my Yaris Verso, and before I buy anything I'd like to be sure my headunit is actually supported. Since I have a CD player , there is absolutely no marking on the dashboard. Is there a way to know what number is on my H/U without taking the dashboard apart? I know I have to take it apart if I decide to install the device, but for know I'd like to do it the easy way. Is there an easy way?

And btw, is it actually possible to connect an AUX interface on the CD changer port if I already have a CD player (i.e. no tape)?

It's very possible! I Have an aux interface on mine to allow the line-in of my MP3 player! Not sure about the Verso radio though... if it's Fujitsu 10, then yes, it will work!

It's a Matsush ita, and the TOY-AUX interface from PIE is working fine. Taking the dashboard apart is quite like in the Yaris (i.e. not Verso), except that the middle part is designed a bit differently and is hold by two screws on the top, instead of only one. Otherwise, it works exactly as described in in http://www.aozh25.dsl.pipex.com/yaris/index.htm.

The interface was quite hard to find (most UK shops were not shipping outside UK/Eire, most US shops not outside US, and I don't even speak about finding it in Finland). http://www.bortesi.it is the official PIE reseller in Europe, and the prices were reasonable too (70 EUR for the interface, including shipping to FInland).
