We have a 92J GL auto with 131K which we could do with keeping another couple of years. It is fine apart from a flat spot problem which is not purzactly the same as the others I've seen hence this new post. We get the odd cough and splutter in our damp weather but the REAL bugbear seems to be a fuel-starvation flat spot around the 1,800--2,000 rev range which is desperately bad after a period of light-throttle operation (difficult to avoid in the Channel Islands). We have tried removing the fuel filler, fuel system cleaners, new exhaust back box (collapsed baffles in the old one) and have consulted the main dealer and had it on the best independent diagnostics over here - all to no avail. It never happened when we had a heavy caravan on the back so it would seem to be throttle/vacuum related. Without the van at 50-55mph in overdrive auto it shakes like a wet dog, get stuck behind some old !Removed! and it takes seconds to respond to the gas. Drive it like a prat and it's fine. I understand there was a service bulletin in around 98 concerning oil-clogged vacuum lines. Anyone out there help with this or other ideas??

Pete
