To MrWinkey...

We all know about engines because we know a guy called Yves... AKA 'God of Engines and all things Yaris'

He really does know about 99% of everything to do with our lovely little cars!

Also, we use the internet to research things and complie all of our ideas on this forum and then some of us use this info we have gathered and re-apply it to new topics and problems, hence the fact that we seem to know a lot!

Also, when you put an induction kit on... if you use a DRY filter like the Apexi, it it basically the same as the airbox... has all the same places for the switches, sensors etc... except that it sucks much more air in and doesn't restrict it's flow... so the sensors are fine!

As half the forum said before me, it's likely to be the MAF-sensor. Before you start cleaning it try and retrieve the code stored in the ECU (or is that the EMU these days :!Removed!: ). You can do this with a test wire shorting pins 4 and 13 on the OBD-plug under the dash, there is a description how to do this in an old post on this very forum, then read the flashes from the Check Engine Light. This might give you more info as to what could have triggered the light to come on. You don't want to be thinking that after cleaning the MAF-sensor everything is fine while actually there is another possible problem going on.

If you want to reset the ECU you can pull out the fuse for the EFI for a couple of minutes, it's located in the engine bay fuse box, it's exact place is marked on the fusebox lid.

Yves.

Seveer,

cheers for the Reply, i didnt know the alternate box's had all the sensor fittings. Thats pretty cool.

So Yves is an expert on these little cars. Sounds like a very handy man to have around.

I want to know as much as i can about he car on one hand, but ont he other i dont, as, as soon as you know things, you start to here things. Little nioses etc. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

That said i think i will end up buying the Haynes manual when it arrives, although i said to Gem that i would not do anything on this car as it is shiny and new and want it to stay that way.

strangley enough the light went away itself without me doing anything lol

If the conditions for triggering the light are no longer present the light will go out after a number of ignition On/Off cycles. If it's your MAF-sensor it will come back. Read the codes stored anyway even if it was only to make sure they were for nothing else.

Yves.
