I've seen a lot this smoothing out the boot lid on hatchbacks lately, how is it done? (Not that I want to do it to anything of mine, just curious) and please don't tell me it's done out of pure body filler ...surely that would fall out after a few years (if not months) of slaming the boot down

  Filler.

You are joking?

I thought a metal panel would be tack welded in first and finished with 'filler'. If it's just filler it would take a lot and surely it will crack.

Sorry it is welded up first and then smoothed off with filler... Well thats how my mate did it to his mk2 Golf.

I don't like the style tbh, everyone is doing it.

Leave it six months and it all starts cracking up like nobodies busyness. Good if you like a marble effect tailgate though.

Smooth tailgates don't look too bad on Mk2 Golf GTI's but on the AE92 Rolla it looks tacky.
