I Think My Turbo Has Gone

It was accelerating fine for a good hr no problem running just under 1bar

suddenly on accelerating it just wasnt going anywhere, there was no pull at all and the boost guage was desperatly trying to go up.

Took it down a side road and accelerated again just to make sure it was the turbo, and it only went up to 0.5 bar and i hear this horrible spin squeek sound and only a very quiet ptsshh sound from the dumpvalve!

I noticed no smoke , no bangs or any sign that the turbo just blew up

I now have no money, i just spent £1000 on a headgasket fix for my other car

£40 for a Battery , £150 for a respray , £200 for the downpipe , £125 to get it put on

tax is due in a month, and insurance is due in 2.

Ouch, seems like an expensive time for you. Not an expert on turbo's but I thought normally they gave off loads of smoke when they were on the way out. You sure it's not an air leak or something?

Seems to be chucking alot of white smoke out the exhaust

and when i touch the accelerator it spurts out what looks like

black oil

But my old man seems to think its just condensation as

i have water in the exhaust and its cold

White smoke is Turbo failure .. if it's very thick .. and it'll not go away when the engine is warm.

Get the intake off and check the free play of the turbo ..

is the turbo spooling but not getting any boost? to the engine?

I've split an IC pipe .. trubo sounding normal .6 bar boost .. and a list of hissing from the engine bay. Just found the leak, stopped it, 1.0 bar is back again ..

i would of said boost leak but since it is white smoke, i would say turbo as well as leaking oil. the turbo seals could of gone.

Anyway spoken to TURBO TECHNICS apparantly my Turbo Bearing has gone which may mean my blades have been touching the casing of the turbo, so ill get a new reconditioned one and also a new high strenght cambelt.

Car might not be on the road for a days but the end result could be good for the performance and the car

thanks for the replies guys

Perhaps a chance to look at a different turbo CT20b perhaps?

Cant afford it m8, spent way way too much

only afford a uprated original reconditioned one

Still if it runs to 1bar or 1.1 thatl do me till

i can make alot of my money back

Just an update

ordered a new turbo CT26 , couldnt get a hybrid too much money - due tuesday

ordered new timing belt and pully belt e.t.c - due tuesday

Car is booked in to be sorted on tuesday , to have items fitted plus the alternator removed and the bearing fixed on the alternator also an oil leak is to be fixed underneath the block.

So probably talking £800 or more total

The turbo has 100% gone white smoke is now coming out the exhaust pipe

and comes out in puffs on acceleration, there is alot of oil around the turbo

and some has dripped underneath indicating a tired turbo anyway. Also

Turbo techniques said the downpipe and increase boost probably put

the tired turbo on its last legs and the play in the turbo bearing meant

it had finnaly worn away the edge of the blades.

So hopefully car should be back in full working order

sound great and boosting correctly at 1 - 1.1bar!

Have you got a name and number for them? Just wonder if they could do my cambelt cheaper than what I've been quoted so far.......Toyota wanted over £400, Jap village do it for £350 according to their web site, Toyota specialists in West Malling want £300 thats the cheapest I've been quoted
