Mk3 Supra Twin Turbo

hi there, just joined this forum as its time to get another jap car ready for the summer, after having an evo-v in 2003 and a veilside 300zxtt last year, i have decided to go for something a bit different this year, and purchase a mk3 supra twin turbo...

but i need advice..lol, is the 2.5 better to go for than the 2.0 (which one has the greater tuning potential and parts availability?) are there any specialists dealing with these cars? and maybe most important of all... where the hell can i find one?

any advice, hints and tips etc, etc, on these cars would be greatly apreciated

many thanks

rich

Pick of the bunch is the 2.5 twin turbo (1JZ-GTE) any engine tuning parts for the soarer TT will fit. the engine pushes just under 280 bhp, and is by far the most reliable out of the three.l

The problem is finding one for sale!!!!

Not to many about at all I'm afraid!

2.0tts are more reliable then the 3.0T, but lack the botem end grunt... they are night on impossible to tune as no one seems to do any parts from them in the uk!!!

so they are "different".. its basicly an IS200 block with a yamaha head and two CT-12 turbos.

Mkiii supra buyers guide

Ignore the forum for now as its going to be torn down and rebuilt! :D

just to follow on from what charlie says...

finding a 2.5tt is very difficult, finding a decent one is even harder, finding a decent late model is even harder still :D You'll find the odd few H and J plates, and to my knowledge there are two K plates in the country. Spend as much money on one as you can, the cheap average condition ones will bite you.

2.5tt engine is a mkiv engine with shorter stroke, parallel turbos and all the potential and reliability of a mkiv engine. Tuning is harder and more expensive though, requiring more fiddling and more parts lower down the power scale.

340bhp is easy enough to get out of them though and reasonably cheap. 400-450 is expensive, 450-600 is major money. In theory you shouldn't have to open the block up at any point up the 600 mark.

2.5tt 'limited'is top spec mk3 available, 2.5tt 'R' is stripped sports model, and the GT is the base model with extras available.

2.0tt isnt a tuning car, but is good for rareity value (having said that there have been quite a few turning up lately).

As for 0-60 etc..

3.0 turbo is 6.6 stock, 6.0 seconds BPU.

2.5 twin turbo is 6.0 stock, around 5.4 BPU.

2.0 twin turbo is about 7 (charlie?)

I have read the official 0-60 time ona 2.oTT is 6 seconds...

I'd say 7ish  I honestly have no idea!!!

I'm having engine work done by renault F1 (along side their F1 V10s :D) so hopfully I'll be able to break the 6 barrier!

yea baz, i have joined the mkiii sites, the people there (as here) have been very helpfull...

and indeed it is rare to see a u.k mkiv supra (so you got propper brakes and leather) infact i think it was at last years jap performance weekend show at santa pod that i last saw one (i had my tent set up near it) dont think i have seen one since!

i have spoken to alex at skylines-r-us (a company i highly recomend) and he informs me, he will have no problem sourcing and supplying me with one, and i have discussed ideal specs with him... so i will keep you all informed
