Has anyone fitted reversing sensors in the black bumper of the Avensis Vermont and is it an easy task.

Thank you for any help you can give.

I fitted mounted sensors on my rear bumber, and because they stick on they were in and working perfectly inless than an hour.

I know that not everyone likes the mounted ones, but the set was only £13+vat so can't complain and you don't really notice them that much. My missus loves them cause she was having trouble parking.

Thankyou bfckarios for replying. Can I ask you if you drilled through the black bumper and metal chassis to get into the boot? and what colour wire is the reversing light in the rear lamp cluster to connect into.

Many thanks

Sorry for late reply.

No I did not have to drill at all anywhere. The wire easily passed between the bumper and body work to the hatchback seal and then along the seal to where I positioned the sensor unit, just to the side of the parcel shelf where the rear speaker sits. I did fit it inside the boot, but it didn't stick well to the plastic interior of the boot, so I stuck it on top.

Off hand I can't remember what colour the rear light wire was, but I just removed the light assembly and traced back fro the bulb to the wire and the easiest place to clip it to. It was an absolute dream to fit and best thing I've put in.

Hope this helps, I might have a look at what colour wire it if I remember.

My father got some of the in bumper ones for his Primera, he paid £130 and he just couldn't get the to work properly, he even managed to reverse through his drive gate testing them. :ffs:

Many thanks bfckarios for the latest info and I shall look at that way in,however my sensors are the insert type and so I have to drill the bumper and then find a way of routing the wire UNDER the seal in order to enter the boot,I presume you routed UNDER the seal.

If you do get time to find the wire colour I should be most grateful.

Thank you again

They were on offer at our local makro store about a year ago, I know you can get same ones on line for about £30, so I was well pleased.

Yes, I followed under the seal to where i needed it.

Will have a look at wire and let you know later.

I've just taken the plunge & ordered some META SR2 sensors off eBay. The sensors are located in a casing which fits underneath the number plate so no drilling :) anyone have any experience of these ?

Sorry JimDee, just not had chance to look at the colour of wire, as I've been trying to get sorted at Uni and also get car in for a front wing replacement ( cyclist made nice dent in it, my fault though ).

But will have a look soon and let you know if you haven't got sorted yet.

bfckarlos Sorry to hear about your mishap with the car hope its not too costly.

I managed to find the rear wire by putting the car in reverse (not with the engine running !!)and using a light probe, the colour is RED. I still haven't been able to find how to get the wires from the inside of the bumper into the boot. If I could find a way of removing the bumper this would solve my problem, any ideas ?.

Anyway, very many thanks for help and hope all goes well with your repairs.

Got car back yesterday, great job done, insurance paid for it all and my brother-in-law paid for the excess (I've been doing some work for him, so he treated us), and now just waiting for a chegue from Insurance company for the replacement cycle I bought for the cyclist. So the only thing I lost out on was the car for three days, but hey that's the way it goes. I did however get a free valet and they replaced a broken door trim within the cost even though it wasn't damaged in the accident.

On the wire routing problem, I can't remeber if the spare wheel compartment has a drain hole, some cars do. Have a look and you may be able to pass it thrugh there.

Hi bfckarlos, pleased you got the car repaired and to your satisfaction.

Thanks for the info I will have a look at that entry but have still got to get from the inside of the bumper.Weather a bit too cold for getting under the car at the moment but will keep trying, pity it wasn't your rear bumper that got damaged might have found out how to remove it !! :help:

All the best, hope you are not snowed in.
