Hello everbody,

:help:

Having recently bought a seemingly unmolested Mk3 2.0 Ltr Twin Turbo Manual Jap import (GA70), thought it would be a good idea to register on a couple of Supra Forums.

Don't know much about the particular model, only that we thought it looked really good. It is a sexy black one!

Anybody out there own/owned same got any info on the model, associated problems etc. We bow to superior knowledge!!!

Obviously don't tell us we should have bought a different model!!!

Kind Regards

Its 211bhp out of the box.

Its very hard to tune.

There are virtually no aftermarket parts for it.

Its good for rareity value and the 'twin turbo' aspect.

It has additional options being a jap import, it may or may not be the 'narrow body' version of the mk3. It may or may not have digidash, aero, electric bits, TEMS etc.

It's the least powerful and tuneable of the three mk3 engine types.

Its a nice car.

Its reasonably rare, but there have been a LOT of these cropping up lately.

There is a mk3 owners group, i'll PM you the details.

I have one of those! :D

AS Adi said there area few different types...

Conterary to what Adi said there are a whole LOAD of tuning parts for that engine (its and old engine, and its been about for years).

the thing is as they are/were so rare in the uk and the other two models were faster out of the box few tune it. The aussie forums seem hot on their 1G-GTE engines

However they were big on tuning them in japan. AS the engine is lighter, and the body is lighter (if its a narrow body) then the other versions it handles better, -a 2.0TT is noticably more "pointy" through twisties. (I'm being totally unbiast as I have both chassis types!)

There are no spoecific associate problems to these, unlike the 3.0 7m engiens and headgaskets, but usual supra problems apply! Heater valves, squeaky tailgates etc.

Tell us more about the car! what year? is it an aerotop? (targa roof) auto or manual? digidash? anything!

AS Adi said they were once very rare... but more and more seem to be creeping over... :crybaby:

Pictures would be nice too!!!

In the last week on eBay there has beena 1G-GTE HKS F-con, and a Greddy front mount intercooler...

I bidded on both, but only got one :(

I have also spied a 1G-GTE Twin Greddy TD04 Turbo kit for sale :D

On top of the work REnault F1 will hopefully be doing for me, I might be able to dispell the myth that 1G's are slow and untunable

I know HKS do a crank, rod and piston set for them too, but finding them, is hard... paying even harder! they also doa camshaft set, adjustable cam gears, etc etc. Craig has a Mines ECU... the bits are all out there!

  • 1 month later...

I've got one too, an 89 aero.

http://www.takakaira.co.jp/

These are great. Try '1g-gte' & 'ga70' in the search.

The 2.0 has around 1500 more revs than the 2.5 or 3ltr, which really helps once tuned. Main thing to sort is the air flow in and out, you'll find a good selection of air filters & exhausts on the above link. And a boost controller but with a bov. Bigger pipes for the turbo's and a front mounted intercooler help too.

'5400rpm' 'rhdjapan' & 'jdm-inxs' on eBay are worth keeping an eye on too.

Hope I've been some help

Ross

I stand corrected on the 2.5, thought it was the same as the 3.0

Having UK clocks fitted from a 3.0 means I'm not sure where the red bit starts. I Believe from one of the Aussie websites it's 7500

I also read on a site an is200 6 speed gearbag goes straight on. Would you, or anybody else know if this is correct, because the standard one can only be described as bilge. It's shorter than Bernie Ecclestone!

Cheers Ross

I've never heard of the IS200 gearbox fitting.. normally the problems are down to the bellhousings, but i guess if both cars are using similar blocks then it might be a possibility.
