might be doin the same thing get it all ready if the 1 ive seen for sale is cheap enough mines a gt turbo engine n everyfin to fit it to an sr loom, ecu ect ect ect... what am lookin at gettin...

you would need map sensor, injectors, ecu, intercooler etc. Then you will have a turbo on an engine not designed to have a turbo....

Best to buy a complete turbo engine and fit that. Should cost you around £ 1200 all together. At least it will all hold together.

a ct12 is from the old turbos, and in my opinion not very good, the ct9 is a much better turbo for the starlet. hence why toyota started using it

:P

just do what andrew said, convert it to a 4efte. its better in the long run

So if you have a 4efte engine and wanted to upgrade the ct9 turbo, what options are there? and how much power do they add? also how much do they cost?

A hybrid turbo is a couple of hundred pounds. Replacing with a full replacement turbo can cost up to £ 3000 depending if you buy new or used.

How much power - depends on so many factors, but with other mods, well over 300bhp is possible.

an example upgrade is a td04 (impreza, evo)

a common power output is arround 185 hp for this set up, it can be lower or higher depending on state of tune. power depends on how much money you have to throw at it.

You cannot turbocharge the regular engine in the sr due to the compression ratio.

The 4efe has a compression ratio of around 10.7 (I think), if you stick a normal turbo (read further on!) you will end up with such high pressure in the block that the petrol will self ignite and you'll get knock unless you run the car on race fuel. You may also distort the block

An option which you have is to get a low pressure turbo that gives you mild boost. If you do this you will get more power and probalby slighly better fuel efficiency (if we don't coun't your heavy right foot) because you won't be pulling a vacuum at partial throttle.

hope this helps

have a nice day

im gunna throw a spanner to that mate..

theres a normal 4efe in australia that is putting out 180hp at the wheels. with standard pistons and everything.

it depends on how you tune it whether you get knock or not.

VTRick,

I would seriously doubt that car has a standard turbo on it OR it is running on seriously high RON fuel.

I did a quick bit of guesstimating in my head, and if you don't change the compression ratio of the engine and use a turbo that gives 1bar boost, the air/fuel temp is in excess of 1600K, which is enough to self ignite most fuels.

On the subject of tuning. I agree you can tune out knock but its not ideal. You !Removed! the ignition so much that you create excessive NOX and also would not pass the emissions test.

Have you got a link to the car?
