My Old Celica!

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some advice about my Toyota Celica. Let me give you some details. It’s a Toyota Celica 1600. This car was made in Japan in 1978 (first registered in Britain in 1980), and was one of the first of its kind to be imported into the UK by the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan. The car has less than 79,000 genuine miles on the clock with a full service history, and the body work is in reasonable condition (it needs a bit of attention here and there; new paint job, bit of rust, couple of dents). It has an MOT and road tax until July this year. There can’t be many of these cars on the road these days. I am wondering if it is worth getting this car done up. How much would it cost to restore to its former glory? The car does need some restoration work to bring it up to its former glory, and I would also be prepared to sell it to an enthusiast, but can anyone advise me how much it is worth? So after all the waffle it comes down to two simple questions; how much to do up? And how much is it worth in its current condition. Sound advise will be much appreciated.

I have absolutley no Idea! :D

but if I was you I would post a list of the defects as your question is a little like "how long is a peice of string!"

Does the engine run OK?

Is it just body work that needs fixing?

Is it just panels that need fixing or do you need to replace trim like bumpers etc?

Do you need any parts or are the parts all repairable?

If it's a case of just bodywork that needs repairing ie rust removal, filler and respray then pop into a couple of bodyshops and ask them for a quote

If it was one of the first of its kind to be imported into the UK i'd reakon on this being a Gen2????

If so and its a GT (twincam 18R-G 2 litre) then it might be worth a bob or 2, but normal "run of the mill" ST's or XT's needing work rarely make more than a couple of hundred pounds I'm afraid. With its history though, sold to the right person (enthusiast) with a love for the car then it could well fetch more.

If it is a gen 2 and you like it, then I say fix her up back to former glory and enjoy.

If it is a JDM (import) Gen 1, same shape as in the picture above or the liftback (RA28), then I reakon its worth quite a few quid :-D very sought after (as far as old celicas go anyway)
